Hi All,
I have a two year old Jenday Conure that is pretty much perfect. For absolutely no good reason I am itching for a second bird. Ideally the birds could offer companionship for each other at the least they could co-exist ignoring each other. I am wondering in your experience if the species of parrot matters. For example would my Jenday connect more new world vs old world parrots. South American I.e. conure or mini macaw vs African or Asian species.

Right now today I could purchase a 4 year old Mitred Conure or a 4 year old IRN. I am leaning towards the IRN because I know more about it. It’s super socialized and tame. Also one cuddle conure is probably enough for me. I like the idea of a super tame IRN that wants to be near me but doesn’t want to cuddle. So I am curious if it matters to the birds. Do they have species recognition? I do not want two of the same bird. There is a 17 year old sun that I am drawn towards in a rescue but I am in a rural area so to get a bird from rescue I would have the added expense of travel.

Thanks for your input.

How and why 2 birds will decide to like each other is not for us mortals to understand.

Nothing wrong with getting a second bird, just don't get your hope up too much.
I think the most important thing is that the second bird likes you.
I would try to pick a bird that is close in size and of similar temperament.
active if your first bird is active. shy if your first bird is also shy.

Personally I would not risk changing the behavior or my relationship with my Nike by adding a second....I feel the same about my dog and I've had multiple dogs before....but that's me.
