Although I don't have any birds, I do work at a parrot shop. I was thinking that it would be awfully fun to spend my breaks in the boarding wing, having a dance party with the parrots. I had great success with "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon the other day.

I spent last evening and part of this afternoon compiling a YouTube playlist of songs parrots might like. There's something for nearly everyone in there. Would anyone like to try it out on their fids? If you do, please let me know which songs your birds loved and which they hated. (I wouldn't say no to videos of the funniest or cutest reactions.)

Suggestions would be welcome as well. Thank you!

I will totally try this when mine is awake---she has VERY strange/eclectic taste (from Eminem to certain versions of "the Charleston" lol!..oh and then a bunch of weird indie stuff like "Needle in the Hay" by Elliot Smith---no real beat...so weird)...You haven't lived until you see a cockatoo head-bang to a song about extreme heroine addiction LOL!
Just found out how much she loves this about 2 months ago and I nearly peed my pants laughing lol!

Honestly, I am a HUGE Royal Tennenbaums fan, so that is what I think of when I hear it...

Thank you! It's a reasonably eclectic mix, although I've been careful to stay away from anything that might offend the birds' parronts if the fids pick up parts of the songs. One of the cockatiels in boarding a few weeks ago quickly associated "If You're Happy And You Know It" with me (I whistle it to the birds while I'm cleaning) and began whistling it to me as a greeting whenever I entered the boarding wing. If that isn't a great reminder to watch language and songs around those guys, I don't know what is.

HAHA! I would love to see a video of that someday. Head-banging U2s are hysterical. I really got one of the umbrella 'toos going with Shut Up And Dance a few days ago. Several others joined in, but the U2's reaction was the most extreme.

So far the biggest hits are song 1 and the proclaimer's song (dr who)<--granted she is biased toward that one as we often dance to it. We haven't listened past "don't worry be happy" lol!

Here is a messy house, pajamas and a messy, dancing bird (crappy camera work--sorry!)...This was our first time hearing the first song on that list! I look like a turtle! HA

ps: She looks kind of ragged because she is in a hormonal dither---chewing tail feathers due to light changes...ugh...the winter is always hard for her. Next time, I will try to catch her head-banging to Elliot Smith--- because the video above is merely her dancing, not actually "jamming" haha.

The Rickeybird loves J-Lo and can sing a very bad version of a couple of her hits. In general, he loves soft female voices and big bass back-ups.

I had heard that lots of birds love Korean pop star Psy's stuff, especially "Gangnam Style", and in fact, Youtube is full of them!

Bumble isn’t a dancer, but she does little happy chirps when she likes a song. I just played Gangnam Style for her. She loves it. [emoji38]

I just adopted a Goffins Cockatoo and this was really fun to try with him. We played about 6 songs from the list. He LOVED Don't worry be happy and You can call me al. He even vocalized a bit, the first time we heard him do this to a song. :)
