Hi everyone!
I hope this thread is okay? I’d love to carry on being on the forum despite being birdless.. It would be lovely to have a place where I can share the photos I enjoy taking of the Wild parrots and birds around my farm or on my travels. And I can also ask questions, queries or just have a little chat about future parrot ownership ..and if okay.. have my little moments where think of Sunny, and let things off my chest.

I’ll start off with some photos I took this morning, I was enjoying watching this flock of Sulphur crested Cockatoos chilling out in the pine tree. With their lone Corella friend who thinks he’s a sulphur! (It’s not Sunny)

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Hannah, you are beloved by the ParrotForums family! Birdless for now, even as Sunny is likely busy building a family thanks to your dedication and respect for his freedom.

Thank you for sharing those magnificent images! Most of us simply dream of viewing flocks of cockatoos and other exotics in a natural state. With all the horrors inflicted upon Australia, it is comforting to see wildlife untouched by tragedy.

Looking forward to more images, and of course musings about Sunny!

Hi Hannah
I love the pictures. I don’t know if I’m far from you as I’m also in Vic but in Albury / Wodonga. I see the odd cockatoo here when I’m walking but not too many.

My parents are out in one of the country towns and they hear them a lot in their front yard.

Thanks Scott! It’s lovelu to know I’m so welcome here :) I do feel very lucky to be able to watch all these beautiful wild birds outside my kitchen window! Didn’t get to see any parrots out my window in the UK haha.

Ah yes you’re right on the NSW border, much drier and hotter where you are? So I guess that’s why there isn’t as many Cockatoos. I’m in the Ballarat region, In the Pyrenees shire. A bit cooler here and lots of rainfall.. well not at the moment!

yes i’m right on the nsw/ vic border ;). it’s pretty dry here and we have had some hot days. Beginning of the year was hitting 40s. I’m in the township but where my parents are is out in the country 30 mins drive from Albury / Wodonga near Hume weir. I don’t get out to my parents place too often but I went out there before Christmas to collect the parakette and the Hume weir is getting low.

My parents were getting a lot of the smoke from the Corryong fires earlier this month.

Birdless!!?! That is a hoot! You have an ever changing flock that the majority of us can only dream about! And by now, they have spread the word, and have you on their map! The foster mum, always ready to step in, but respects their freedom!

Hannah, I believe I can say without question, you're a member of the family here, so never a need to ask if it's okay to post such a beautiful thread. I love it! Just to have a glimpse of what you get to see every day is amazing. Thank you for sharing, and we all look forward to more. And the musings, missing Sunny, absolutely. We're all here for you when you need us. You're a unique and beautiful soul for all you have done, and continue to do!

Hi everyone, haven’t been on here so much lately as it just makes me want a bird even more!
And I’ve been focusing on my Guinea piggies quite a lot. Sadly, just a few days ago my big gorgeous Wilma has been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. She may only have a few weeks left to live. I’m heartbroken. :(

Here are some photos of the Wrens, I don’t think I got around to posting these when I took them a month or so ago..

Shame this ones out of focus..

Hannah, I am so sorry to know Wilma has a discouraging prognosis. Your love will comfort and give her the best quality of life.

Gorgeous wrens, so cute and petite!!

Missed you! Am so sorry for the sad news!
Until recently, I have always raised guinea pigs. I have never seen the colors of Wilma!

Thank you everyone for you kindness regarding Wilma.

I finally got some shots of BLACK COCKATOOS!
So I was out picking grass for my guinea pigs, just about to go up the steps back into the cottage when I heard the distinctive yellow tailed black cockatoo noises. I turned around to see 2 eating from the pine cones in the pine tree right just a few metres away. I quietly raced inside to get my camera and took some quick photos. It was 8.50.. and I had to leave for work in 10 minutes but I was still in my pj’s haha! Oh well!

Hi everyone,
Found an injured sulphur crested on my drive home from work tonight. Broken or damaged wing. He can walk about though.
Phoned wildlife lady who wasn’t keen to take him as she said if his wing is broken she’ll have to kill him, which she hates doing..understandable. She gave me a number for another wildlife carer thar could take a look at him and her husband can ‘put him down’. But she didn’t answer her phone nor get back to my voicemail.
So if put the bird in a pet carrier for the night, with seed and water. I can take him to the very small and limited vets that is near my work In the morning. I guess they can put him to sleep.
It seems such a shame, shocking that wildlife rehabilitation is almost non existent, at least in my area. For anything more than a scratch. All the can do is kill them.
Surely with the right facilities, care and rehabilitation a bird can recover from a broken wing. Of course depending on how bad it is..which I don’t yet for this parrot. He bit the hell out of my hand when I got him off the road. He’s very stressed and scared so I can’t take look at his damage myself.

Any recommendations for any options for him? Or somewhere he may receive treatment? (If he survives the night. He seems perky enough for now..hissing in anger if I come near). If not I’ll take him to be euthanised in the morning on my way to work.

Why me!

Why you? Because you are blessed with a kind soul that would stop on the side of the road to help that wounded animal, and no doubt, you'd do it again and again. THAT is a beautiful thing.
