What do you do with your feathered family members when you go on vacation? I ask because I will be going out of the country for a couple of weeks and I'm going to have to board my Senegal at a local vets office. I figure while there, they can trim her wings, nails and beak if needed. She is only a year old.

I really hate leaving her, we are really starting to bond. I have had her now going on 7 weeks. I'm curious how she will respond to me after not seeing me for a couple of weeks. I figure I will have to start all over again. I hope not. I'm not really wanting to leave her, but my wife wants to go and see her family and I have to go along. I would hav rather stayed home with Tiki.

I'm actually looking into that same thing. We're planning a family vacation in a couple months from now, and I've been trying to decide if I want to board our conure or take him along. I know you can board at most vets, plus many bird stores will board, and I know PetSmart has a "pet hotel". Also, I've come across several people who will board birds in their homes. As far as costs and the level of socialization that is offered, you'd have to discuss that with the places you are looking into. Good luck, though, and enjoy your trip!

We boarded our CAG and RFM for a week last September. Jade had been with us for about 8 months but Ruby had only been home for about 2 1/2. We boarded them with the breeder we got both girls from so it was a safe, healthy place where they got lots of love. When we got home and went to pick them up, they both came right to us as if they missed us - which they did. I doubt that you'll have to make up too much ground.

That is the reason I do not take vacations. If I did need to leave home for a while I would take my bird to the hand feeder where I purchased her. She also boards the birds in her home in a separate room by themselves.
