Ok, let's see how on top of things you all are ... I found this listing on Craigs list and it jumpped out at me almost instantly.

The listing is as follows:

" I am sad to have to place my buddy up for adoption but for health reasons. I've been tested for allergies because I have major sinus infections about every other month and it causes my asthma to kick in. Long story short, I need to re-home my pets.

I have a Blue Crown Conure and he is a very sweet bird. He's about 8 months old. He's (sex unknown) very animated, easily handled, will go to just about everyone and isn't too loud. He's not a constant screamer only making typical birdie squawks and talking (a chatter box). Very playful and his antics are hilarious. He's in perfect health and has not been exposed to other birds other than my own. He did recenlty break his tail feathers from playing, so they are still growning back.

I am including his cage (24x24 YML with playtop & stand), toys, carrier and food for an adoption fee of $300.00 FRIM, (total for all new is about $800.00) I want to find him the best home possible, serious inquiries only please. PLEASE be sure to include your phone number, AND a description of your experience with birds as well as any birds you may have.

I am not adopting him out to the first person that comes along, I am looking to find the best possible match for him."

What's going on in this posting that makes me think this is a scam?

C'mon you guys are all smart!

~ Tex

(P.S. Christy, you can't answer this as we have already talked about this!)

The person says that they have more than one bird, so why are they only selling/giving away one bird?.. If the person had real allergies to birds wouldn't they be allergic to all there birds rather than just the one?

Thats the only thing i can find wrong...

Is it the fact that he has a problem every other month? If you have a bird in your house all the time and are allergic, wouldn't you have a problem all the time? We all know how dander gets EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME :D Look at me, I have a huge anatomy final tomorrow and I'm trying to solve this, lol.

Let me give you a guys a hint ... what is one of the advantages of birds as pets (these benefits do not apply to either African Greys or Cockatoos) ... figure out this hint, and you figure out what tipped me off!

Tex, you're killing me here. If it has to do with conures, I have no clue...you're the expert in that department...does it have to do with him being a "chatterbox" at only 8 months? I think a lot of conures are known for their screaming, and this guy says his doesn't. And as a side note, I have had Iggy since he was a baby and he plays as hard as any bird and has never broken any tail feathers. I hope someone figures this out tonight, so I can keep studying horse heads, haha.

Oh, you guys are killing me ... NO, birds are non-allergenic, with the exception of Greys and Cockatoos who produce feather powder which, in rare intances, can cause allergic reactions.

This person probably has a screamer and can't handle it ... ... this is why birds get rehomed ... *sigh*

Au contraire, mon ami, I worked with a veterinarian who would cough up blood every time I brought Iggy into work with me...I don't think that was faking it. Who knows, it might be something else about the bird that can cause allergic reactions, like its droppings (that's what the vet was allergic to). Not saying this guy might not want to get rid of his bird for other reasons, but he could be telling the truth...

CRAP! I assumed that he was allergic to the feathers ... I completely forgot about the fact that he could be allergic to the poops! :p ... oops!

*I stand corrected ... actually, I am sitting, but I stand corrected*

There's a lot of this that doesn't sound quite right to me most of them have been mentioned. But this
I have major sinus infections
I also suffer from bad sinus infections. As you all know I have 2 Greys here, 2 dogs, 1 cat and 9 little parrakeets, would I ever think of rehoming any of them, the answer is simple NO, NEVER.
He's not a constant screamer
So by that I read he does scream, when they say "not a constant" does that mean that he stops for about an hour a day?
I need to re-home my pets
Why do they only mention 1 bird?
PLEASE be sure to include your phone number,
Why, when you could arrange to go meet them via email.
To me it screams SCAM but then that could just be me,

Aw you guys are so cynical! :( I guess maybe I'm more sensitive to it since I may have to find Iggy a home or at least have thought about it...but at least the guy isn't saying "Conure, 8 mos, w/ cage, $300"...it sounds like he really wants to find a good match for his bird, and you can tell more from a person by actually talking to them on the phone than through e-mail. I don't know, maybe I'm naive, but regardless of this guy's motives to find his bird a new home, it seems like he cares about his bird and where it goes...and to that, kudos.

No, I'm not offended or anything, I just think it's nice that the guy is at least putting the effort into finding a good home for his bird, rather than trying to dump it at a shelter or sell it to the first person he meets.

Wow, seems as though I have inadvertantly started a hot topic here. My thoughts on this issue, there is a bird, and he wants to rehome this bird, but I bet it's a screamer, probably because he doesn't understand what it takes to care for a fid. I live by this rule, "a conure who is having his/her needs met has no reason to scream except because he's happy!"

Not spamming per se, just someone who is very upset and wants to get her story out ... I'm not going to lie here, that ad almost read more like someone who had a dog and not a parrot.
