Pistachio's- where to buy for a reasonable price ?

Our Cockatoo Shelby loves,....Pistachio's, but around here (near Lincoln Ne). a pound is $9.00. Do any of you know where we can get them cheaper ?

So far, she only likes them and almonds. (non-salted, no dyes and all natural of course) We've only seen plain pistachios at "all natural products" stores, which are always higher priced than grocery stores.

Also, we give her nuts only as a treat, but how are they as a regular diet ?

Thanks,
Kevin

Do you have Trader Joes there? That's where I get pistachios, unsalted and not dyed. They're not expensive at all. I believe they were $3.99 a pound. My guys like them, too, but they only get one every so often, usually broken into tiny pieces as a training treat. I like that they're lower fat than most nuts, and they really go nuts for them. :)

Do an online search using "pistachios online unsalted" without the quotes & you can pick-n-choose.....

OOwl-I'll checked with our local Trader Joes, and their $5.99 per lb. Not the great price of $3.99, but better than the $9.00 from the health store !
Where do you live for the better price ? I would think all locations would be the same cost.

I've done some web searching, but with shipping included, I don't see anyone under the local cost of $5.99 per lb.

Ethnic stores, particularly Mediterranean/Middle Eastern markets always have the best prices on nuts and grains. I just bought a 1 lb. bag of roasted UNSALTED Pistachios for $4.99. At Kroger they are upwards of $7!

Can we trust Ethnic stores ? (no pun intended) just that shipping from overseas scares me a bit.

Another question- What does roasting do to the nut ?

We have not purchased Pistachios but the nuts we do purchase on line come from NUTS.Com.

High quality, very good customer service. If I can not buy locally, I purchase from them!

NUTS.Com iis about the same price than our health store & added shipping.

We don't have the No-Frills store here, but Omaha does. I'll call them.

Pistachios around here are about 13.00 a pound lol, I buy them in a 25lb box from a food supplier in this area called weavers. They come in a vacuum sealed bag from California. But other then that nuts.com or anuts.com are decent sites to use I just hate the extra pricey shipping fees.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to bump for those looking for pistachio nuts. I just bought a 1lb back of roasted / unsalted from Fresh and Easy. Trader Joe's have them for the same cost. I live in California so I don't know if there are very many Fresh and Easy's in the other states.
