Talking Hendrix Preview flight cage - On sale!

Heya!

Hope this helps someone out either looking to buy an extra or new cage, or looking to upgrade from a smaller one to spoil your babies.

I came across this sale the other day when looking up the same cage I had purchased for my own bird.

https://www.chewy.com/prevue-pet-pro...iABEgIpOfD_BwE

I don't know much about the site it's posted on, as I think I bought from another website, but even at the normal 130 dollars I think this is an absolute steal, when you consider cages of this size are generally in the 200-350 dollar range minimum brand new.

A lot of people complain about it being difficult to set up - myself, I had very little issues with it. My only real complaints are that it comes with hard plastic bowls instead of stainless steel, though it does come with four of them which makes changing them out easy.

It's the perfect size for any of the Conure sized birds, I've kept a Sun and a Green Cheek in it. Enough room to fly from one side to the other if you don't over-crowd it, and plenty of space for toys, food and water dishes, etc.

Nice, biiiiig doors! One on the top -and- bottom.

Downsides:
-There's little spring-lever doors scattered around. For an escape artist who learns to push them open, a conure might be strong enough to wiggle themselves out if they're ambitions. However, upside - lots of doors for making food, toy, and perch accessibility convenient!
-No doors on the back of the cage, which is pretty common, but with the size it'd have been nice for making perch placement easier.

Upsides:
-Huge amount of space and decent quality for the price, even not on sale
-Not so deep short people like myself can't reach all the way in and reach everywhere
-Already mentioned the doors, woot!
-Plastic poop tray - personally I like this, as it makes it very light for removal to clean
-Easily removable metal grate that locks in, and the poop tray slides out easy
-Wheels!
-Storage rack on the bottom holds my cage and play covers, newspapers, and other such supplies.

That is a pretty decent brand. It depends on the size of your bird. Is this for 1 or multiple? Think about their wing-spans and make sure that if they flap, they can do so without hitting things like walls or perches (especially at night-if startled).

The only down-sides (aside from possible size issues---depending on intention) would be
A) that you cant reach in from the top to maneuver toys..Planning can prevent this issue though

B) The lack of a metal seed-skirt for mess control
and C), as you mentioned, the doors...But there are ways to "double" lock food doors if you are super-crafty and know your birds (Do make sure feet can't get tangled in any reinforcements and use stainless steel if you take that route).

I was scared mine (U2) would escape from her cage (different brand with external pivoting hinges that block the door from opening from the inside...only spring-load +hinges are in the front)...Anyway, despite her intelligence, she is LAZY about anything I consider to be productive/industrious lol.

SOOOO...I don't know if that helps...
I do live-stream my bird privately while I am away so that I can make sure she isn't doing anything insane...Just set a live-stream on YouTube to private and use your laptop camera (or a webcam)..then email yourself the link.

I DID have to leave work one day when (to my live-stream dismay) one of the food doors was wide open, but I am thinking that it didn't latch properly and she just pushed it open while eating...still not sure on that one lol.

Re: Hendrix Preview flight cage - On sale!

I love this cage, we have 4 of them. We use a zip tie on the breeder doors and haven't had any issues. We replaced the bowls with stainless ones with holders.
That is a really good price for it.

Zip-ties could work too (when I said stainless steel, I was assuming you would go with metal, so that is why I said that). Thanks Terry57!

Stainless would definitely be the way to go with a cage meant for larger birds, but this one has a small gauge wire and 1/2 spacing so the zips work okay
I meant to mention that part in my previous post, I always hit submit too early..lol.

Re: Hendrix Preview flight cage - On sale!

I don't have any living-with experience with larger birds like Amazons, Greys, or bigger, but I don't think this cage would be well suited for them. The metal is a bit thinner than those nice, heavy-duty ones you see most people have for the big birbs.

It's worked out just perfect for my Sun and Green Cheek Conures, though!

Oooh, another bonus with the big front doors - They're the kind that you lift a long metal stick up, then it swings open. Mine, at least, have some tension so they don't just sit and swing back and forth completely loose, so I often just put them in the widest open position to leave the door open when I am home and supervising so my parrot buddy can go in and out as she pleases.

I can't stand the doors that you lift up - I'm always afraid they could slip from my hand and slide down, and hit a bird coming out or going in >_<
