ParrotForums.com is happy to announce a new Species Specific forum dedicated to Hawk-Headed and Red-Fan parrots!

The red-fan/hawk-head parrot possesses elongated neck feathers that can be raised to form an elaborate fan, which greatly increases the bird's apparent size, and is possibly used when threatened. It generally lives in undisturbed forests, feeding in the canopy on fruits. It has a dark brown face with white streaks, bare black patch around its brown eye, green wings, flanks and tail and red and blue barred breast.

As a long time Amazon Snob, even I must admit that this special group of South American Parrots has caught my attention from the first one I saw.

A sincere 'Congratulations' to those Members of Parrot Forums and our visitors who are owned by this proud group of New World Parrots. May you fill this Forum with the Joy and Beauty that they bring into this World!

Again, Congratulations!!!

That is true! It was back many years ago now when the Island Amazons became members of the Amazona Family. The history of that specific meeting runs along the line of the Island Amazons bring a 40' shipping container of Island Rum. Late in the proceedings one of the Island Amazons brought a motion that the Island Amazons be a confirmed member of the Amazona Family of Parrots. It was great timing on their part as the Rum was beginning to run out.

The Hawk Heads, seeing a moment to have their way with the group, moved to include Hawk Heads. Although the minutes of the meeting are not totally clear by this point, it is believed that the motion was approved.

From that moment forward, Island Rum had been the favored drink of the Family.
