Re: How to breed ringnecks

Suggest you get some experience from another breeder before even thinking about this. Breeding birds is not a money maker.

Agreed you don't just breed parrots yes they make good money but take the advice sb is giving you and besides i wouldn't plan on breeding them until they have reached sexual maturity but you really need experiance to breed any parrot so i suggest you do your research and ask breeders before you conssider breeding

Sorry who have u talked to that u say "yes they make good money"?????
I breed birds and have for years!I know many breeders and NO u do not make good money if u do it right!!!! U have to do it for the love of birds!!! I feed great food, do vet checks on all my babies, do DNA, have tons of toys and the list go on to the cost of breeding

Find a breeder that is willing to help u and if u don't know how to hand feed babies then find a breeder close that will teach u. And I don't mean just show u 1 time, that is not teaching and there is SO much more to know then just how to feed babies.

and you have to make sure you have of each i.e. DNA test, also that the birds like each other the females can and do kill males that make unwanted advances.

Re: How to breed ringnecks

There is so much to breeding birds.much more then giving them a nesting box nesting and saying go for it. But your taking the first right steps your asking questions. Each type of bird needs something different. Be shore the bird are of good stock before you attempt to let them breed or you could be setting yourself and them up for a lot of trouble. Only a small amount of birds out on the market are right for breeding. And even a smaller amount of people with the understanding needed to take it from matting to weaning. your need to give 24/7 of yourself. If you feel that you fit that bill and so do your birds call local breeder talk to them as if you could go by and visit. Read everything you can find on and off line. Before hand. Good luck to you.

Re: How to breed ringnecks

Hi my aunt breeded ringnecks and then she stopped. She says their a lot of trouble to breed and she doesn't have the time. The hens can aparently become very temperamental if conditions aren't to their liking and chuck the little ones out, especially if another nosey hen decides to have a peek at them. If you don't have an extra pair for fostering chicks I don't suggest you try. She has had to handfeed many a week old chick and they needed feeds every 2 hours, so its a hard job at the best of times and you have to be really dedicated to it.

There should only be ONE pair per aviary...

Re: How to breed ringnecks

Aah! They had them all together in a huge aviary. Duno too much abt breeding just what they told me but no way I'm trying that! Lots of dedication, breeding should not be abt having chicks to sell, but about bettering the gene pool, think doing it right is lots of hard work

Re: How to breed ringnecks

there's a reason my GW's are both female & the Zon's are both males......I know what my breeder goes thru year round, say goodbye to sleep once she has babies, the Vet visits, DNA testing, baby bird formula is NOT cheap, and I could go on!! She is a rare one, she definitely does it for her love of birds, I don't see how she could possibly be making a profit.
