Buster turquoisegrey IRN male, Piper buttercup IRN female. 2 Budgies who will soon be relocating to my brothers home.
Hi I would like ideas as to foraging toys, what do I use, what do I put inside and how to get them interested. I have a albino IRN who has no interest in human interaction, and no interest in fruits etc, I still offer them, but she's a real scared bird, I bought her supposedly preloved. What can I try to enthuse her? I'm moving her out into the aviary soon as I believe the further away from us she is, the happier she will be, but I don't want her to be bored, she also refuses to interact with the other birds in the house. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

One thing I used to do was weave paper (tissue paper, newspaper, etc) in between the bars of his case and let him rip it out.

Some people on here mount phone books in the cages to be destroyed. :)

Do you mean food foraging toys? You could start with a simple kabob kind of thing, hang it somewhere the bird has to do a little climbing or hanging to reach it. I used fruits and veggies on the kabob for my bird. She enjoyed it.

I also had a hanging treat cup that closed. I would show her that i was filling it with treats, and then close it up. she figured out how to get in there and eat all the treats. (in time she chewed the whole cup and leather strap it was hanging on too!)

I think that kind of thing does keep their interest and gives them a motivation to do it.

My bird also had a favorite toy--the ball of cane. It was all woven up around a pinecone. She chewed and ate almost the whole thing. she ADORED this and i bought it again and again.

White Bellied Caique
Since Caiques are great foragers, I purchased a number of foraging toys before we brought Pitu' home. One of the ones he loves best I make by myself: I take a tiny clear plastic cup, put a peanut or whatever in it, run a non-toxic glue stick around the rim, and then put it on a piece of light cardboard or heavy paper. Once it's dried (about 15 minutes), I put it on the cage floor and he has a ball tossing it all over the place and then ripping the paper off to get to the treat. Obviously, once he's got the treat I take the cup out! Easy and fun.

Pepsi and sprite, both are American male budgies
What I'd do for budgies before I leave for school is I'd buy a small doggy foraging toy , the one where the doggies would roll it around and treats come out. I'd open it and put frozen veggies and fruit inside of it, in your case you could just put her favorite kind of treat inside but you have to make sure that's it's big enough so if the birdie try's to roll it itll take a while for it to come out. Then put it on the floor of the cage, the birdie will try to get the treats out by rolling it.
