How long does a IRN molt for? Also why are my forever putting things in there drinking water bowl, things like bits of wood, bits of apple and other strange things, they are all doing it.

It can take 3 to 4 months for a bird to fully molt. It varies by species.

As for the food in the water, they're soaking it to soften it up. Pixel makes "soup" like this all the time. Especially with pellets and crunch veggies like carrots. If you watch them you'll see them carry food over and dunk it. And, yes, she'll soak wood and bits of leather too. Just be sure to change their water throughout the day as needed, to prevent bacterial growth in the water.
