Training question

Hello all,

Our Ringneck Remy has her full wings and we let her pretty much fly around when she wants to. We feel it gives her exercise and freedom. We want to try and train her not to fly into the kitchen however, especially when we're cooking as it's very dangerous. Does anyone have any experience or tips on a similar experience?

Just to be safe I'd put her away when cooking.

I agree, you should probably just keep her in her cage while you're cooking. However, to train her to stay out I would just take her out of the kitchen whenever she goes in. I don't have any experience with this, though, and it seems like the risk is too big to rely on her training. I would just keep her in her cage while cooking. Good luck!

I either put my amazon in his cage, or in a travel cage closer to the kitchen. Or I hang a curtain so he can't go in there.
I don't think I could "train" him to stay out.

Its better to keep him away from your kitchen.
Do not take risk, especially when you are cooking.

I could look into stationing (i.e. training to stay put until cued otherwise) as well as training Remy to fly to certain locations on command... i.e. cage, playgym, chair, etc.

I don't let the Beaks into our computer room for obvious reasons. The best way to discourage them has been to close the curtains and keep the light off. They're reluctant to fly from a light to a darkened room. If I have to, I hang a curtain over the top half of the doorway: it's easy enough for a person to duck under, but quite enough to stop the Beaks from flying through.
