Hi everyone,
So, I'm getting my first Indian Ringneck tonight. A blue ****!
It will join my cockatiel that I am currently hand raising.
I have attached a picture. Does anyone know what this coloured bird is called? Even better does anyone have a picture of what it is likely to look like mature or how the colour will develop? Thanks

Which one your getting??? The White one or the Turquoise one? I would advice in raising them separately! Just in case...Even babies needs to be quarantined! Make sure you wash your hands and change of clothing in between if your holding them. Also using separate feeding utensils and dishes.

Unless it's a par-blue, looks like a normal blue IRN.

Hi Mikey! Yes I got him last night! I've been a bit worried because he is VERY frightened of me. He is eating ok now, but it took a bit of effort. When I brought my baby cockatiel home it bonded with me straight away and is a fat food guzzler but this little boy is very different. I'm trying not to handle him too much yet. I will post a picture.

He's so cute! When you change hand feeders they freak out at times but once he's been fed by you a few times and when his crop sac is empty he will cry for food from you. You'll be fine! :)

Hi Mikey I have had him for a few days now and he's still not cryiing for food, although he will eat it. He is still a bit scared of me. Why does he not cry for food?
Now that he has settled in for a few days I'm going to start handling him more. He's on my lap as we speak!
With my cockatiel it's not flying yet but he's madly flapping his wings, and he is eating less formula. Is this a good time to introduce weaning foods?
THanks

On your Cockatiel, yes it's time to start introducing food! And a shallow dish of water. One she learns how to take flight, it's time for her to be in a cage.

Was the breeder hand feeding the baby ringneck or is he fresh out of the nest box?

Ok thanks Mikey. I offered some Millet in her box this morning.
The ringneck was straight out the nest and not hand fed. But my cockatiel was straight out the nest too and was not scared of me from day 1.

Can I just add though, I'm not concerned that it's scared of me (I understand that) I just want to make sure its responses are healthy.

How old was the baby tiel when you got her???

The older they get, more likely they will act afraid like that, be real careful! Even though they would eat from you, the moment they take flight they can be a pain! I've had a few like that in the past where they became mean towards me when they were weaned and they tend to wean at a earlier stage too. I would socialize with this baby a lot so he'll get used to you. Does he come after your feeding utensil when you offer formula??

The baby may act cold depending on what temperature setting you have in your home. Be sure to keep an eye on her for the time being since she's living in a cage situation now. Offer food on the bottom, if there's a grate on the bottom of the cage, remove it for the time being. Sit small dish of food and water on the bottom where they would learn to feed.

Mikey they said the cockatiel was three when I got her. I think you've seen the pictures and agreed that was about right. I'm not worried about her at all at this stage, more about the ringneck. I am only putting her in the cage for like 1/2 hour a day and then back in her box with towels, but I may increase that now.
The ringneck is not chasing after the food at all, I tap the syringe on the side of his beak and he swallows it.

Yes that baby is around 3 weeks old in the picture. I don't start the cage process until after a month old but I know people who start at this stage.

The ringneck baby knows your feeding him, give him a few more days and see how he reacts to you. Don't worry about him too much at this time since he's still rather new.
