Hey guys,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm new to this site.

I am currently looking to buy a ringneck in the coming weeks, I have a nice big cage. It's almost as tall as me and I'm 6ft tall.

I've been wondering if I should get one or two birds, I'm thinking if I get one, they might be bored and lonely while I'm at work. But then I'm thinking will two be to much to handle, will they get on, will they rather care for each other and dislike me, and so on.

Lol, I don't know if I could walk into a shop or wherever an separate two brothers or sisters. I know it happens all the time. But still :)

Any advice will be great, I've brought the cage and nic nacs ect. I just want to hold off with the birds until I fully know what I want to do.

I would probably start with one. It will be easier to get to know one bird versus two. It will also be easier to teach things like step up, step down, etc. Also the two birds may not get along with each other.

If it was me, I would get one and see how that goes. Then after some time has passed, I would possibly think about getting another bird. :)

I personally would start with one. With a cage of that size, I wouldn't worry about it being in there for an extended amount of time. Just get lots of toys and perches and the bird should be happy. It has been my experience with my own that these birds prefer to be housed alone.. ( mine doesn't get along with the others.) Good luck!

(Small voice) I started with two and, for me, it's worked out really well.

My Beaks don't particularly like each other, but they get along and don't fight. Well, not much - only when there's one toy they both want. They live in the same cage (which is too small and about to be replaced) and talk to each other constantly. Both are easy to work with, although personality differences mean that one is more the explorer and discoverer while the other is more the trick-doer and student.

My reasoning is that the thought of leaving an intelligent, gregarious creature alone in a cage is just - eurrrggh! - awful!

I have two males and they get along well with each other.
They were bought at different times as well about a year apart.
But I would start with just the one.
Hope this helps you.
