Hi everyone! So, today I bought a hand raised Indian Ringneck. About 10 weeks old. I have wanted to own one for a long time. I started handraising one about four months ago but he died in an unfortunate accident.
The bird is very pale silver and white. The breeder seemed quite sure it was female due to it's colouring! I'm not sure how he came to that conclusion because I thought you could only sex them by the rings they develop or by DNA test. Could it be because of her parent colourings?
Also, for those of you that have ringnecks what are the differences between the males and females that you have noticed? Thanks :)

Some mutations needed for a pale/white parrot are sex-linked. So it's definitely possible for a breeder to know what sex a chick is with some pairings.

Would love to see her when you get a chance to do photos.

Here she is. SHe's very pretty and elegant! I have her cage partially covered as she is very frightened. Poor little chook!

I haven't had a chance to cuddle her yet because she freaks out if I go near her cage. But she IS starting to make noises! It's very unique sounding!

You can nest sex latino ringnecks and albino I am pretty sure(not to sure about albino).
but to be absolutely positive with all other ringnecks DNA testing is required.
The males don't get there ring until 2 and a half or 3 so you cant really be sure.
I have Ringnecks here that I was positively sure were females but they turned out to be males.
They have a very heavy malt at 2and a half/3 years and only than can the ring becomes visible.
Male or female your ringneck is a little gem:green2:

Thanks Caesar. Yeah she's terrified of me though! I'm surprised at how scared she is considering the breeder said she was handraised from 2 weeks..I know she needs time to settle in but she absolutely hates me!

Lisa now that I have had a closer look at the pic you've provided, is your bird a true albino (has she got red eyes) if so she is properly a female from what I know.
She appears to have a grey pied section on her wings??....

I don't think she said she was albino (unless I missed it) She said she was silver and white.

I LOVE Marnie..."weee you're so cute" haha...I think that's when I started to really want one!
She does have silver on her wings, I don't think her eyes are red though, although it's hard to tell with the lighting in here. I can't get a good look at her eyes because I don't want to stare at her. The breeder wasn't 100 per cent sure of her colour. He said he thought maybe silver, but to me it looks like beige or off white even caramel. It's very unique.
