Quick run down, Soleil my IRN was MEAN when I brought her home (3yrs in a pet store, 4yrs with an animal hoarder). I thought for sure she was never going to be able to be handled. I'm not new to owning birds but was new to owning an IRN and I really thought I had adopted a birb that would never bond with me. After scanning this forum, private messages from IRN breeders and not being afraid to ask questions, Soleil is slowly coming around :D Sometimes I do push her a bit but for the most part, I've learned to read her body language and understand her desires and she's come to understand that I'm not going to hurt her. Petting is still a no go but at least she will step up for me without tearing the skin from my hands.

She still has what I call a "Goddess complex" and she wants to kill my budgies. They share the room with Soleil (never out of their cage at the same time). Soleil does everything in her power to get a hold of the budgies :( I will be placing the budgies in a different room to keep them safe. She's already done damage to one budgie leg :/ and with him already being disabled, he doesn't need any other problems.

Edit: No Woohooo!!!

Today SUCKED. So, I thought Soleil had bitten Loki (budgie) on the leg. So much for assuming. Loki must've gotten his little disabled leg caught on something in his cage. His leg was very swollen today. From the looks of it, I thought it was either broken or dislocated. So, rushed him to the vet. After a couple xrays, the avian vet determined it was neither broken nor dislocated. Talk about confusing. There is much swelling, and discomfort on his splay leg. The vet says it looks like Loki has "extra joints" in his splay leg. She said she's never seen anything like it. Loki is still using his leg (as best he can). He's on pain meds and antibiotics to bring down the swelling. If there is no improvement by Friday, than I need to bring him back in and talk about possible amputation. The one thing the vet kept repeating "I can't believe how much of a little fighter he is!"

Soleil is mad at me because I kept her in her cage today. She's making all sorts of crazy sounds but until I can put the keets in another room, I just don't want to take the chance of her startling or getting a hold of Loki while he's currently lame and healing (Soleil likes to bang on the keet cage).
