How old would do you think my new IRN is?

I picked up this IRN this week, but found out they don't have a hatch certificate or even a date of hatch. They said that the typically sell them once fully weaned, which could be anywhere from 4 to 14 months. Curious what people think his or her age is. Honestly, I new they were about twice as big as my parakeet, but I thought he or she would still be a little on the small side. He or she is pretty big!

I've uploaded to my album and linked to some close up shots, trying to focus on the beak. The little birdy sure is busy! So it isn't easy to get a clear photo. For being in his new big home, after all the stress and trauma of being taking from the aviary, travel and put into a new place, he sure does seem to be having fun and very content. (lots of happy beak grinding sounds at night as he or she get's ready for sleep)

This little guy or gal sure didn't take its time in stealing my heart! What a cute and silly little birdo!

some people/places don't give hatch certificates, it's an inconvenience but not uncommon. The fact they say it takes between 4 and 14 months is amazing to hear and it sounds like they could very well be someone who weans using the abundance method if hand-feeding or lets them be parent reared. Both really good options over force weaning (taking food away an forcing them to eat solids when not ready to)

As for the size by the time they wean/fledge they're very close if not already as big as they'll get. Our sense of growth is off as primates/apes are very slow at developing and growing, birds are among the quickest so they can get airborne and away from predators.

Now for the actual question lol, I'm going to take a blind stab in the dark and say that to me looks like a 5-6 month old female. Not basing on any knowledge I just get the feeling of a girl and on the younger side, just not a truly little "toddler" bird

Thanks again, LordTiggs! I was hoping for a boy, since I love the singing, (and the ring is so freaking cool looking!), but now that I've met my little buddy, I wouldn't change her or him! Still very skittish and a little scared, but also has lots of personality.
On the intro post, Itchy guessed 4-5 months, you are guessing 5-6... so far, I'd say 5 months is wining out. We'll see if any others chime in.

yep it's amazing how quickly we can go from wanting something specific to just seeing one and falling for them, I'm sure they can get singing either way. I much prefer the ringneck babbling and their general selves. Such funny creatures

Also, he or she was listed as a "blue", but really... seems more aqua... Fair amount of green. Is this pretty normal for a young blue Indian Ringneck, and they turn more blue as they mature? I know it's corny, but Blu really is a good name, (as proven by the movie "Rio"). However, don't want to call him or her Blu just to have people always reply, "... but its green?" LOL

looks completely blue to me

maybe one of us has a bit of blue/green colourblindness?

I believe feathers get slightly darker after the first molt but not by much

I see some light blue, cyan, some ocean, not so much teal or green. Oh and red.....the beak is defiantly red.

photography and light can do funny things to colour.
My blue is all blue, a few different shades of blue, but very blue, not a hint of green.

Yeah, the green doesn't really show up in these photos. lol In person, green is more prevalent, especially on his back. One of my friends, after seeing my bird for the first time said, "He's kinda blue/green... kinda aqua. Hey! You should call him Aquamam!"

An unrelated question: How do I stop my knuckles from bleeding?

When I was looking for Henry, there was some beautiful blues that in the sun, had obvious green feathers, it was like they were covered in a paint that depended on which way you looked at it.
Clarke is a normal blue. Love him anyways

(Always thought if I had a pair, it'd be lavender and grey, but these boys are brilliant)

My Benny was all turquoise when I got him at 3 months. He is now pushing 6 months and molting. All of his new feathers are coming in green ) I originally wanted a blue baby, but now that he's changing, I'm seeing how pretty he's really going to be when he comes into his own

Nice! I just wish I knew for sure. I guess I'll stay away from names tied to color. I.e.: naming him Kermit, since he looks green, but then he turns out to be a blue bird named after a green frog. LOL It just wouldn't work.
