hi
I have an Indian ringneck. He is around 4-5 months old.
Today he was playing in the room and he flew on a pipe which was leaning on a wall and suddenly it fell down and the pipe was on the floor on its wing.
and from then his left wing is in an awkward position. and he is not able to fly.
what should i do?

Get to your Avian Certified Vet ASAP! That’s what I would do! I’m so sorry. :(
Hope it’s just a sprain. Please keep us posted.

hopefully you have some blue painters tape or masking tape... carefully stabilize the wings folded to the body like hes at rest..CAREFuL@... wrap tape around body...not too tight and get to ER vet ASAP... best bird be wrapped in towel after taped to stabilize.... sheeesh I feel for your birdie

the idea is to prevent him from flapping and doing more damage. 4 hands is a big help

FYI: Regarding painters tape and/or masking tape - place the sticky side up and way from the feathers and allow it to stick to itself on the second and third wrapping.

So, where are you? I would have guessed that you would have been watching your Thread with baited breath. I assume you are at your Avian Vet by now, right?

GRRR .yeah... some of the cheap maskin tape could be too sticky. I keep the 3M blue stuff handy... it hardly sticks to itself and wont slip off.. Only had to use it once. Crossing fingers OP managed to stabilize the wing somehow and made it to a vet!. Hope they had a second pair of hands too... tuff to do with only 2 hands.

I'm sorry folks..please forgive me..BUT...OP? WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU,OR YOUR SON/DAUGHTER/MOM/DAD had this happen and had an arm hanging "in an awkward position"? Would you not be on your way to a DOCTOR by now????

I'm gonna get a lot of flap for this statement..

Get your IRN to a Avian Certified Vet NOW. Stabilize the parrot as suggested, but get moving.

That vet wrap also works for stabilizing an injury. Sticks only to itself. Shouldn’t be any pressure on the bird’s body as they can easily suffocate if the chest is at all constricted.

The vet was not available yesterday...i am trying to get todays appointment..and i have kept the parrot in a small basket so that it cant move..when kept in its cage it tries to come out and when taken out it tries to go back in...its not still most of the times..always trying to do something..and about masking tape i am afraid i might hurt it more so i think the vet would do it more correctly...i just hope it gets well soon..i will keep you guys updated..thankyou so much.

The wrap is not a fix...its meant to stabilize the wing to prevent further injury until u can get to the vet.. Broken bones moving around can cut tissue, nerves, blood supply etc....
pardon me for adding ......... GGRRRRRRRRRRR

Hopefully it's just a sprain or dislocation. His left shoulder looks kind of dislocated to me, but then again, it's hard to tell with birds unless X-rays are done. And to be fair guys, the OP's username suggests s/he is from the Middle East, where it wouldn't be uncommon to refer to animals by the term "it" rather than by name or gender. Ring necks are also popular in that part of the world, which could further point to that. Then you've got my Mom who always refers to our non-human friends by name or gender and considers them to be members of the family, EXCEPT in front of other people -_-. Freaking ticks me off, man! "You should see Robyn's parrotlet. It's really clever and it is almost like a part of the family!" I swear, Mom, stop trying to look cool in front of your friends!

All bs aside I was more GRRRed over failure to stabilize the wing... broken or not. We all should have a birdie first aid kit... Blue 3m tape top of the list, hemostats, gauze, peroxide, small scissors, and a blood clotting agent should be the basics. Murphys law gets all of us at times.

Get an avian specialist to help with him, there is something wrong if your bird cannot fly. I feel very bad for your bird as he looks very sick, I hope he gets better soon :rainbow1:
