My IRN is chewing on his leg band a lot lately. He's almost a year old, do you
think he could be growing too big for it?

it's impossible to get too big for it. birds only grow during the first 2 months of their life. When you get him he was as big as he was gonna get.
He could just be a bit bored or particularly interested by the ring, try to give him something to distract from the ring

Also check to be sure the band is not bent or split, that there is nothing stuck in or on it, and that there is no injury to the leg that it could be irritating.
