Hi I have a indian ringneck parrot hes name is kermit, kermit went to the vet Monday he got his wings clip an d his toes nails cut he didn't like his toenails being cut so he screen so lour the vet had him in a towel. then he started acting very strange wanna to sleep alot blown up like a balloon he was a very active bird . Kermit isn't eating or drinking can someone please advise me what 2 do please he only 2 years old he loved to talk but know he only sleeps blown up like a Ballon I'm so scared thank u

Oh my, please let us know how he's doing...I hope you have a good CAV near you, if you're in LA you should...it certainly does sound like that vet hurt your bird somehow while clipping him, never take him back there again (obviously)..

What do you mean he's "blown up like a balloon?" Are you talking about his feathers being puffed-up? If so then yes, that's a sign that he doesn't feel well or something is wrong...

Hi everyone kermit is at LSU small animal hospital for the night the vet thinks he has amEna other spell right sorry from clipping his toenails he bled from his toe so hopeful that is what is wrong with him. He's getting a iron shot on iv Meds to get him back because he hasn't drank for 2 days or eat that much. The vet told me to feed him pellets not seeds . He is on cocatiel food without sunflower seeds from chewy.com. Hopefully I will get him back soon. Will let everyone know what's happens, thanks for caring 4 kermit god bless

the vet at LSU thinks he has anemia from the blood loss and he's is shock, please pray 4 him please I so scared that I'm going 2 loss him. I will let u know hat happen thanks for caring for kermit

I am absolutely horrified at what you and your poor bird hae been put through. I'm not a vengeful oerson, but in the interest of protecting birds in the future, I personally would report that first vet to the Board of Veterinary Medicine, or whatever the appropriate agency is!
I'm so glad the poor darling is in good hands now.

My God, how much blood did this vet let him lose for his toenails? That's sinful that a vet would allow this to happen...for a bird to lose enough blood to become anemic and go into shock from a simple toenail clipping is horrendous, but when it's done by a vet, my god that terrible...

I'd be calling that vet that clipped him ASAP and telling him that your poor bird is in an animal hospital due to what he did to him...They should be paying the medical bills for this, and MORE IMPORTANTLY that vet needs to know that the way he is clipping the toenails of birds is very, very wrong, and he needs to stop before he kills a bird. That's scary...in fact, you absolutely MUST tell that vet what's going on, otherwise he's just going to keep doing this to bird after bird, that must be stopped...

Hi everyone kermit is home, still not feeling that we'll but did drink water by himself for the first time since the nail trimming . LSU took good care of him, they want me change his food to pellets from seeds what do u think I think he loves his seeds. Will keep everyone updated on kermit. Thanks to everyone god bless

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry...

I understand something else might be at play here, since you didn't mention the vet that did the clipping, but just because I feel it's extremely important for other birds, please, if this vet that did his clipping was actually the cause of his anemia, shock, and death, then you very much need to call that vet and let him know what has happened, and report him to the authorities, as no Vet that allowed this to happen from a simple nail-clipping should be allowed to keep clipping nails, other birds need to be saved from going through this...

Was reading this and hoping the little fellow would make it ... not the ending I wanted for anyone.

If you feel ready- get the medical records from the second vet and use those to bludgeon some common sense in that first quack!

(Wrap them around a brick for good measure )

(oke- not a good idea: violence is never the answer- but you'll understand the sentiment I hope)

That person should not be allowed to treat birds (at least) till he/she gets the skills to do so.
Accidents happen - but make sure there is a good follow-up if you do (esp. when you are a professional) - that vet should never have sent your bird home with you after losing so much blood.

(And he/she should have given you instructions how to help your bird compensate for that bloodloss, what to look out for and when to call for help.)

Poor Kermit.
