How often to feed sprouts?

Hello, so I have been reading about sprouting seeds and how good they are for your bird especially during breeding season. I was just wondering how many should be fed in a normal week and how many should be fed when it is breeding season (I don't have my IRN yet just doing some research and I don't plan to breed) thanks!

My birds eat them almost every day:

monday: almost
tuesday: almost
wednesday: almost
etc.
etc.

Just my luck- they absolutely distrust them.

Oh okay, do you do this all year round? What seeds do you use to sprouts? Are there any types of seeds I should avoid?

As often as you can and want to. I have sprout stuff in my home for my Ekkie, I do it in fits and spurts. Which is probably the smartest thing to do because you don’t want them to get bored. Feeding a rotating variety is always a fabulous idea to keep them engaged.

I just bought a pre-mixed bag (with seeds and small beans) especially for sprouting->
so no idea exactly which ones are in there (sorry).

Since they make such a fuss and are not eating them I am pretty lax in the regime.
More interested in seeing them actually eat their veggies and fruit.
That way I do not get discouraged if they don't eat it after all the care and effort.

The SilverSage one is a good tread/ recipe.
Sprouts are great, but also can go bad pretty fast - so pretty labour-intensive as food goes.

Nah. If stored thoroughly dried before storage they could potentially last up to 6 weeks. Drying them is key to making the then last.

Good to hear - I've always been told to chuck them after 3 days in the fridge as an absolute maximum, just like all precut veggies, cooked foods etc..

I’m admittedly skeptical of it, but it comes from the sprout people, a prominent authority n the topic. After a week I smell every time I serve, just to be safe. Ive only got my one bird so to make six weeks worth of sprouts is almost wasteful. Ive never made that much. Ive had one or two batches get used up safely at the 3 week mark or so. And one or two that spoiled after a week tops.

I do really believe it’s all in how diligent you are about making sure it is dry when you go to refrigerate them.

I like to feed as frequently as possible, even daily. However, I use sprouts as a mix in the chop that I give to my birds.

How often to feed sprouts?
