Hi, I clipped my IRN wings about 6 months ago and there are no signs of growing back..... is this normal?
(by the way they were professionally clipped by an avian vet)

yep they molt yearly, sometimes there are exception depending on like if you just cut before a molt but if it was soon after could be about a year. Usually about this time of year you see those feathers fall out and new ones emerge. seeing your in the Caribbean I wouldn't know for sure though.

There are differences between the species and when they molt.
Mid to large Parrots commonly molt body feathers during nesting season and several months prior hormonal season so that they are in their best feather to interest their mate.

This same group will selectively molt flight feathers. Point being, they never want to be in a position of not being able to fly! As a result, they commonly molt two feathers from each wing. When those feathers are in place they will molt additional sets of flight feathers.

Age is very important as young Parrots are investing huge sums of energy growing and if they have recently completed flight feather replacement, they may not have the energy reserves to commit to extensive feather replacement.

It is very important to understand that the only signal the parrot has of a need to replace a flight feather is that the feather has fallen out or been pulled out. IMHO pulling flight feathers is dangerous as a bleeder may result. Pulling multiple feathers can place serious demands on their energy reserves.

Waiting for flight feathers to grow in is likened to watching (waiting) for water to boil. Soon enough, your beloved Parrot will suddenly fly.

My flock has JUST started their molt and they mostly live outside, yours will likely molt in the summer if he lives inside.

I clipped Nike's and in a month or so she was flying and I had to clip again. Timing is everything. ;)

Callum- GCC Hatchday: October 15th, 2016
(nonparrot friends include rats, a dog, and a few reptiles :))
It took Callum a bit to grow his feathers back. He was hatched in October and I took him home in late December/early January. It seems like one day, he just had a couple of primaries poking through like "I'm here and ready to fly!"
