Just wondering if any one knows somewhere that I can learn more about the specific sounds and body language of IRN. I understand that each bird has it's own unique sounds but there are some that are in common with all IRN.

Not seen specific documents regarding meanings, etc. for IRN's. I was hoping that one of the members that have IRNs will comment.

In the mean time, try the Amazon Forum, looking at the highlighted (light blue) Threads at the two of that Forum. Look at the Thread; Understanding Amazon Body Language as a starting point. Fully Understanding that your IRN is not an Amazon, but the goal in providing you this source is to get you thinking where you should be placing your attention. Each species has specific sounds, body language and their own twist on their meanings.

Even though, Amazons have a known base language across the full family Amazona. Each Amazon requires that it's owner pay specific attention as to what sounds /body language and/or combination are attached to what is going on around them. One of the huge realities that will come from you paying more attention to your Parrot will be just how little you are aware of around you!!!

Thank you both for your suggestions they have been helpful. A bit of google searching has made things a little clearer.

This is one I'm interested in too. Coincidentally, I was looking for IRN behaviors around breeding and when is that season, and their common sounds weeks ago. I read a BirdTricks article and another, but very high level content.

My male IRN was displaying courtship gestures earlier today.

I have tried google with no real success. Maybe I am just searching for the wrong thing. Still I am learning pretty quickly what is what.

So Mango is making the same sorts of sounds and maybe I am just continuing to be more observant or notice more subtle things.

Lately he seems to be ducking his head more and saying Uh Huh while looking at me with one eye. He doesn't always duck his head when doing that though, and sometimes he does it while eating with his head in his food bowl. Sometimes we start a back and forth Uh Huh exchange.

Now I started wondering if that is an aggression kind of things, and my giving it back is irritating him.

Now, if I put my hand in his cage to have him step up, he will either walk away, kind of reluctantly step up, drop his head and put his beak in the way, or slightly spread his wings and fully lunge. I can always tell how it's going to go before we'd meet. Sometimes I can be just as stubborn so I've figured out a tight fist will prevent him from being able to bite. He's seemed to stop trying, actually other than the lunging, which I'll back away from and leave him alone, he has not bitten me in a long while - I've forgotten the last time.

I think it's just my own perception, but I also feel like he wants to interact with me less (more beak in the way and walk away). I don't bother him much if he's like that.

I read from the Google chronicles that drooping head is a breeding behavior.

Seems like longer than 6 months since I've had him, but that's all it's been.

You might want to start a new thread in this Indian Ringneck subform so it gets more visibility. You will see more options if you click the "Go Advanced" button in an existing topic or when you start a new one.

Below the text field there will be a "Manage Attachments" button that pops up a dialog with "Choose File" and then "Upload" the file.
