My 2 Yellow Ringnecks

Hello everyone,

I have 2 yellow ringnecks. Not tamed. They are about 9 months, Eyes have a white ring now. But i am still not sure about their gender. I am planning to do a DNA test, but due to COVID, it is not possible to go out for at least 2 months. Can anybody take a look on images and share idea?

FYI: I would recommend that you consider moving the dry food bowl from under the perch as that will keep the food bowl cleaner between changing it out. Also, consider an additional bowl that would contain fresh veggies.

There is no reason that you cannot develop a working relationship with your Ringnecks. Target an interaction that is based around 'Only Good Things Happen When Humans Are Around'.

Very lovely birds-- I can't answer your question (sadly) but I would definitly get rid of those dowel perches (which can lead to bumblefoot) over time. You want wood with more variation in width/texture (but not all wood is safe, so don't just grab something from the yard....)

ParrotWizard makes really nice (but kind of expensive) custom cross-cages perches if you are worried about finding a proper fit (but with width variation, and modified to fit your birds' size).

Also- definitely add some more toys after introducing them slowly (toys can be very scary, so you have to model play and get them used to them before putting them in) BUT they are an essential part of keeping birds happy in captivity. Honestly, if you can, I would get a bigger cage, because 2 birds in a cage that size (plus toys) COULD be cramped..hard to tell the actual size..

The other thing I notice is that the top of the cage is covered and that can increase hormonal and behavioral issues over time...You want them to have light during the day (not shadows), or you simulate a nesting environment and that is far from ideal in terms of your relationship with them or their health.

But yep those square dowels are very hard pressure points on the feet. Make the ok sign with your fingers and then widen it a little, you need at least one round perch that size, to provide good resting support for the feet.
