So today I went to a theme park which has a zoo. On the way to a ride I found an area where you can walk through and even feed some Lories! Naturally I was so excited to go in. I only got some pictures of them hanging around but at one point I had about 7 of them on me!

I never realised how quiet they are, I had one shouting in my ear and it was nothing compared to a conure. Shame about the food/poo as if they were like ordinary parrots in that way I would be running trying to find one so fast!

It was really nice talking to the employee there as they noticed I was a bit more confident around them than everyone else and was really nice to help some of the younger children understand the birds weren't going to hurt them and what the birds were doing. Just thought I would share my little experience with everyone

Oh, cool! I was actually just at the Denver Zoo last week and there's a Lorikeet exhibit where they're it's closed off but people can walk through and feed them nectar. I took a video of one chirping and it was also pretty quiet compared to my old Jenday...

yeah, even compared to a green cheek they're pretty quiet. Although maybe the one on my ear was being nice to me, that one seemed to especially like me. I think I was almost chosen by them. It was so fun seeing the young children's faces when they realised the birds weren't going to hurt them. I did get a pinch from one too but barely felt like a pinch, just a little "go away" nip. I now see why people can get past the dietry needs of them

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
So many venues have "Lorikeet Landings" or similar. A great place to view and have them swarm to you for some nectar. Yup, the frequent squirting is an issue, but they are so cute!

first time ever seen anything like this in the UK so was quite a sight. They definitely do swarm people, no better word for it. Nothing quite like having all of them on you licking and nibbling every part of you

OK so here's what you do, find a stuffed animal parrot that LOOKS like a lorikeet and hide it under a long trenchcoat.

.....

Profit!

I have heard they are messy birds like other softballs (toucans and toucanettes too!). One of our members, Pinkybird, has several loris and if I remember correctly (and I may not be remembering correctly, so forgive me:p), one is even some kind of therapy bird or goes to educate kids about birds or something like that. They seem to have a reputation for being good natured birds despite their mess.

honestly if the poo didn't literally shoot out of them I would be extremely tempted to get one

TBH, I think the horror stories of them hanging off the bars shooting poop is something of a behavioral problem certain individuals have rather than a typical behavior most do. They do have liquid poops, but I'm pretty certain most of them poop straight down like any other bird. Again, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's an attention thing to spray poop all over (kind of how some birds fling food in an excessive way).

You might want to ask Pinkybird about hers. She's the only regular member I can think of off the top of my head who has loris.

Oh I meant I was more worried by the splash of the impact. Luckily the ones I hung out with were pooping normally but it comes out with such force! I'm still very much stuck in a place of not being sure if I'm good to look after a parrot right now, let alone what type
