Kyle: Olive Rainbow Lorikeet
Have just brought home my first Australian parrot.. he is a hand reared 15 week old rainbow lorikeet with an olive colour mutation so is much darker than the normal type.

One he has chance to settle in I’ll send some pictures of him out and playing he’s very tame a a very laid back Aussie attitude...

Beautiful! I love these colorful birds. I was very interested in getting one before I got Levi. The breeder talked me out of it. He said, they poop like hawks & eagles. They raise their tail & shoot out. So, I would need to cover all the walls.
Is this true?

Thanks & congratulations. :)

Have a high sugar pollen based diet so poop is more liquid, but so far there is not much mess and probably less than my other parrots made throwing seeds about the place. But it may get worse only the first day...

Thanks! I'll keep a watch on this thread b/c I'm very interested.
I wonder if anyone else on the forum has a Lorikeet?
I'll do a search.

His colours are awesome his friend Kenny is younger but he’s coming home in 5 weeks or so he’s a standard rainbow lorikeet. But he is not weaned yet.

Welcome and be welcomed. There are a few active members with lorikeets. Yours is beautiful, I've never seen that particular coloration.
Cute face too, good luck!

Kyle is settling in well so far, seems to be fearless and happy to ride the dog around and has made friends with the budgie too.

what a cutie! I'd love a Lori but don't even know where to find their food or how to make it, plus they need to eat often which I know I wouldn't be able to keep up with. Then of course there's the poop!

So far not any messier than my old parrot and too were with throwing seed about the place. In Australia the food comes in boxes you just mix it with water or give it to them dry. Can give them flowers out the garden too but not tired that yet.

well I say the mess, what I mean is the liquid form of the mess (bit hard to get out of carpet.

Over here in the UK it's so hard. Looked on websites and none of them sell Lorikeet mix. And like I say I wouldn't be able to keep them fed throughout the day. Maybe in the future when I no longer need to work haha

Win the lottery and start a bird park

you joke but I would love to do something like that. I'm hoping to potentially be in a position where I can mostly work from home and set up an aviary of sorts

Reading up on these little beauties it says that

"Rainbow Lorikeets are sweet, affectionate birds who are known for their comical antics and congenial personalities"

Looks like Kyle is definitely that. Oh btw it says they can be potty trained for future reference. Please update as they are truly fascinating. Congrats.

Will do, he is completely fearless and very fun and lively. The mess everyone keeps talking about so far has not been that noticeable his poop is fairly wet and smells very sweet. But not to bad, and no carpets in Australia it’s too hot, tiles are easy to clean. Might be worse once our second one is ready to move in an 5ish weeks :)
