You know it Aunty Laurasea, Val the budgie has already had a lorikeet-related vet visit after a huge fight over her food - but it doesn’t seem to have slowed him down!

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

Sorry Aunty Rozalka, she’s actually just laid another one! I’ve boiled it and set her up in a shallow nest so hopefully she’ll work out after a while that nothing’s gonna hatch and get some of those hormones out of her system!

Why did you boil it? Nothing's gonna hatch anyway

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

It’s because if she sits on it for a week she may accidentally break the shell and get yuck all over herself and that would be one sticky smelly mess to clean up! Standard operational procedure when dealing with infertile eggs and mad hormonal females, while I wait for her dummy plastic eggs to arrive in the mail!

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

I see you are more intelligent than me. I had the same "egg" problem with my budgie Limonka. Now, when I'm thinking about her, after 4 years I've just understood we are guilty of her death! I thought all the time she was old but old birds don't lay eggs The reason was a mirror which made her mentally ill - she was sitting there all days, started being hormonal and laid two eggs. I will never use again mirrors for alone birds!

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

Don’t blame yourself Rozalka, Limonka may have laid eggs with or without a mirror around. I’ve had female budgies with mirrors who never laid eggs, and I’ve had a female cockatiel (Kang) who never had a mirror and she laid about 8 or 9 eggs during her lifetime. I’d let her sit on them for a week or two until she lost interest and she’d be fine - until the next breeding season and she’d go and lay a few more! And then Sludge (our purple crowned lorikeet we had at that time) would jump into her cage and try to play football with her eggs, oh believe me Kang was not happy about that!

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

I see that HRH is up to mischief once again. At least she will be out of Fang and Val's face for a while if she sits on the nest LOL.

Re: Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

Yep HRH is up to her old tricks again! Fang and Val are indeed enjoying a little peace and quiet but I think her current phase of egg-fixation is about to come to an end and Lilly will come back at everyone in full force!
