MISSING/STOLEN: A man sold my White Bellied Caique "Ava" on St. Louis MO Craigslist

My White Bellied Caique, Ava, was not getting along with her sister, "Sheik", anymore and we decided to try to find a foster home to look after her. We were suggested a foster home by a knowledgeable and trustworthy rescue which I have been a part of for years. The trusted foster home is in Ladue, MO and his name is Andrew. I went to his house and he seemed extremely nice and knowledgeable with parrots. He sent me pictures of Ava and she was doing great. On July 10th, I saw a craigslist posting of a white bellied caique, but Andrew has kept in touch with me and it didn't even cross my mind that it was her. Today, I called him to ask him how Ava was doing and he nonchalantly said it was killed by his (incredible sweet) white goffins cockatoo that cannot even fly (and my bird can). He surrendered his cockatoo over to the rescue without any damage or blood stained feathers. Everyone knows Caiques can be super scrappy. If Ava was attacked, she would have put up a fight. It was her on the St. Louis, MO Craigslist ad now that I look back at the picture. I know he is lying. He hung up with me on the phone when i started asking him specifics about her death and why there was a craigslist post of her. The parrot he surrendered to the rescue was malnourished, and I worry that Ava is not in good health.

PLEASE, if anyone has bought a caique in St. Louis around July 10th, I just want to know she is ok. I hope that she is alive and healthy. I want her back, but if her new person is unwilling to surrender her, I at least want to know she went to an experienced home where she is taken care of. I'm so heartbroken...

OMG! I'm so sorry, that is sad.

I highly recommend only allow fostering your bird in a boarder type with a parrot store. NEVER with friends or referrals. I lost my CAG to a friend and she said she died as well, and the CAG was only 1.5 years old.

I second posting on your local CL. I would be horrified if I had purchased a pet on CL and discovered this. Did you sign any kind of release paperwork? I noticed you said it was a foster for a local rescue? They should have had release documentation. Also I would inform the rescue of this occurrence, as it sounds like they need to do a better job screening foster homes and doing regular home reviews on them.

god i dont even know the guy but i now hate every guy in MO named andrew!

friend referrals SUCK! ya gotta understand, friends are just known enemies. im into cars and i had 'friends' try to get me to buy car parts from their 'friends' and if i refused they would give me crap but when i saw the parts they were in JUNK condition. so i didnt buy them and decided from now on i only do business with established places. same goes for LOCAL BUSINESSES....screw you local businessses, i dont want to pay more money for your expired bird food just to keep the money local!!

this world is crap and is filled to the brim with crappy sketchy people. I would say 95% of the people in this world (excluding this forum of course) are bad. gotta be strong and stay away from others cus every person out there is a potential opportunity for pain and misery.

ConurePower, I know you are very young, I hope your dark view of the world and the humans that inhabit it changes for the better. There are all kinds of wonders surrounding us if we are only able to see them. I like to think there are more good people than bad inhabiting the planet.
