Re: I lost maggie tonight!!

I've got to get busy making my I FOUND MAGGIE HERO AWARD limited edition Fiesta medal...

Maybe that will get the TV people to run the story!

It's a one of a kind, mint condition, and highly collectable...

Yeah. Not really in the mood to party.

Re: I lost maggie tonight!!

I've been thinking, and this is kinda grasping at straws, but worth a shot. When I worked in vet med, we dealt with a ton of lost/found pets. The most common scenario we saw for owners being reunited with purebred dogs and exotics was the reward being the purchase of the same breed/type of animal they're missing. The idea behind this, particularly with exotics, is when someone finds an uncommon animal, they're suddenly brought into a whole new world they would not otherwise experience. They start to enjoy it and get attached and their judgement gets clouded. Now think of it from a non-parrot person's perspective...

"This big, beautiful exotic bird landed in my yard and is super sweet? She'll step right up for me? She must be the unicorn of parrots cause everyone knows they're mean and evil and bite."

We all know parrots have a bad reputation. So Maggie, a spectacular, sweet bird being nice to some stranger might make it hard for them to do the right thing. They might be thinking, "Hey this bird likes me, she must want to stay with me!" The money might not be enticing enough for them. But offering to buy whoever has her their own "Maggie" and teaching them how to train their own "Maggie" would be very enticing...

Re: I lost maggie tonight!!

THAT was actually going to be one of my sales pitches if someone has her and didn't want to give her back. LOOK this one has a home, but I know plenty of breeders. I'll buy you one, and I'll teach you how to train it... BUT THAT IS MY BIRD. AND YOU CAN'T HAVE HER...

And actually, AND JUST ASK ANYONE, here is another little "trained in" trick. MAGGIE was trained NOT to allow anyone to take her off my shoulder. I CAN HAND HER TO YOU, BUT YOU CAN'T REACH UP AND JUST TAKE HER... (We go out in public too much.) If someone's got her, and she gets on my shoulder, they're NEVER getting her back. GO AHEAD, CALL THE POLICE. WANT ME TO DO IT? This is your bird?! Well, I've got pictures of her and vet records going back over 15 years. If she's your bird, and we JUST MET, then how come she's staying on my shoulder?

Step her up...

She steps up for me.

How come you can't step her up if she's your bird?!

WANNA CHECK THE INTERNET FOR WHOSE BIRD THIS IS?!

Let's ask your neighbors how long you've had a bird... SHALL WE?!

THE ANSWER OF COURSE IS, SHE'S MY BIRD... NOT YOURS.

WANNA CALL THE COPS?! FINE! CALL THEM. EXPLAIN TO THEM HOW YOU CAME TO BE IN POSSESSION OF MY VERY VALUABLE BIRD... I'LL SHOW THEM THE PHOTOS AND THE VET RECORDS...

Yeah. That one I can deal with. I JUST HOPE I GET THE CHANCE!!!

Re: I lost maggie tonight!!

I think you're right that someone has her. I was hoping that you'd get a call once they figured out how to search for the missing owner, but that doesn't look like its happening....meaning they hope to keep her.

Keep in mind tho, this person is thinking, "hey I found this amazing 3 foot tall fire engine red cool ass bird, this is going to be fun...."

Fast forward 1-2 weeks. Now he/she is thinking, "Hey, is this bird always going to poop so much and make so much noise?"

and finally, "this is way more work that I expected, time to go collect that reward"

Its really no different than probably 1/3 of how all impulse parrot purchases go......

( I guess what I'm saying is I would expect a call from 2-3 weeks out from a person who just happened to find her)

Re: I lost maggie tonight!!

Just a thought, we've all heard of crowd funding, well how about that same concept to help Birdman666 get his baby back.

Those of us who can and choose to, offer money to the cause for a reward, that way if he feels the need to up the anti significantly we can all help.

I'd gladly offer 25-50$ for the cause, if 20 of us did that he can make the reward too good to pass up (not suggesting he hasn't).

I know I would love such help if I had to pay to get my own bird back.

This ties into my thoughts of not putting out to much significant info about Maggie, in case an educated bird owner goes to buy her from whoever has her. If seller cannot answer some basic questions about parrots that's clue number one she's been found or stolen. If they cannot explain some of her specifics about behavior or age, that is clue number 2 and a dead give away they aren't her true owners.

Re: I lost maggie tonight!!

Bottom line: If there's a greenwing for sale in this area, I'll know about it, and I'll be first in line.

If it's Maggie?! Trust me! We'll know. It will be obvious the minute I walk in the door...

After that, it's just a process of negotiation.

THAT would be preferable to we don't know where she is...

She'd be home if that happened. Guaranteed!!!

I need more big, clear, photos. Both headshots and full-body. Anything cute, etc. People are initially going to look at this because they like pictures of parrots. A larger version of your profile pic would be excellent, if you could. The ones on the flyer won't catch much attention - or be immediately visible, and Tumblr shows photos before text. I've got the kissy photo. If you want my contact info, message me.

(Why doesn't Parrot Alert have the photos of lost birds next to the posting? Like a thumbnail?)

A bunch of my followers are husky owners, and each and every one of us has lost our husky at least once.
