Not sure if Native or Lost Pet....

This bird has been coming into a wild bird feeder pretty regularly....not sure if it's native to FL or a lost pet? Not sure on breed?

I'm about 1,800 miles away, it's a friend of my mother whom lives in FL who took the pics. Figured I'd post it and see if anyone lives nearby.

If it can survive anywhere in the USA it should be able to survive in Florida. Predators would be a problem until it can find a flock.

Yeah FL and SO CAL have some healthy parrot populations due to escaped pets and breeders. Some frustrated owners have been known to just let them go....

I would not worry about it the bird looks healthy and it is just living it's birdie life outside. If you went and tried to catch all the parrots that have gotten loose where would you put them all? http://www.parrotshop.org/wild-parrots-in-florida-are-a-common-sight/

San Diago has the healthiest population of "Mexican Amazons" aka Red crowned amazing a parrot that is going extinct in it's native Mex due to habitat lose/ and pet trade. TX has a lot of them too. They say there are more of these amazons living in the USA than in their native home.

The bird looks like a type of conure. Could be hybrid.

Yep, that's exactly what it is. I'm going to guess it's a pet that got loose only because you don't see too many of them around, I've never heard of any wild flocks of Mitred Conures. Poor guy (if he is a lost pet).

And one of their favorite places to hang out is the grocery store parking lot about a mile from my house. Go to the grocery store at the right time and you need to bring your ear plugs. They're chatty little boogers. Though I think the particular flock I'm thinking of are actually conures of some sort. Not sure.

I think in the case of SoCal, some species are up from Mexico since it is close? If the ones we see here started as escaped pets, there wouldn't be a flock of all the same species, you know?

In South Florida we have quite a few wild conure populations. He may or may not be a pet, but a lot of people have outdoor feed stations for wild parrots and birds. A friend sent me a photo of the wild mitred conures that feed at her mom's food station. If I can find it I will post it

Apparently they arrive in the morning and evening to feed and have been doing so for the last few years.

I disagree The Flock in San Fran, CA The Telagraph Hill flock of mitred conure did not get there because it was close to south america they got there due to people. That flock has been around since before 1993 they are now trying to get ride of them and catch and cage all of them.

In CT they have a few flocks of Monk Parakeets aka Quakers. They were escaped parrots.

Indian Ring neck parrots have taken over parts of the UK to the point that they are making it hard for the native birds.

That is just to name a few. I find wild parrots in the USA very interesting.

Where in CT??? I live there! I know there is a population in either Brooklyn or the Bronx NY...there is actually a guy there that gives free tours of where the Quackers hang out...I'd like to see that sometime.
