Can any on identify this parrot

Hi,

I am new to this forum, I have cockatiels but have never had a parrot so don’t know much about parrots. I live in the Lake District Cumbria. In case it’s relevent.

The last couple of days my neighbour has noticed this green parrot on her bird feeder trying to eat the peanuts. I have seen it in my garden too. Does any one know what type of parrot this is. Neither my self or my neighbour could get close enough to see if it had a ring. It is clearly very hungry and keeps returning.

Does any one know if there are any reported sighting of wild parrots of this breed in the Lake District. Could it be wild or is it more likely a lost pet.

How can I go about finding owner if is lost. I worried how long it will last living outside.

Any advice much appreciated

This looks to me to be an Indian ringneck. These are NOT native to the U.K., I think this is someone’s pet who either escaped or was cruelly released. You’re neighbor should try to approach it and see if it will step up for them.

yes that is a Ringneck, most likely a lost pet.

@ChrisMD Though not native there are wild flocks here after pets being released in the 60's and 70's (I have a couple who nest in trees near my apartment building

Thank you all for you help in identifying this parrot. I have managed to find the owners of the parrot now. They have been trying since yesterday to catch her but have had no luck. They were holiday makers and had bought her with them. They have had to go home as they have got to work tomorrow. They were devastated to leave without her.

They have asked me if I can keep trying to see if I can catch her. They are coming back ina week. I have a spare empty cage and don’t mind looking after it for a week if manage to catch it.

I’m wondering if any of you have any tips or suggestions on best way to catch a parrot.

They kept playing parrot sounds on there phone and it did fly near each time it heard but did not come near enough to catch. There are quiet a few trees around my house and it keep fly from one to another.

Any advice much appreciated thanks in advance

If you have a cage, put water and food in the cage and hope the bird is hungry enough to get in the cage. Check with the owners to see if the bird has a favorite food to entice her into the cage. Or if you have a bird net and can get to the bird feeder, maybe you can catch her in the net.

It may not be a lost pet. UK and many other parts of Europe- especially the warmer southern parts and urban areas in colder countries have a well established feral population of Rose ringed parakeets (IRNS) .

I don't where Lake district is! Is it in Southern Britain. If so it could be a feral bird.
If not, it could be a possible range expansion. You can report it to your local or national ornithological organization. they may publish it.
