This guy has been visiting my backyard feeder everyday for at least a month. He used to leave as soon as I opened my back door, but now doesn't mind if I'm in the yard. He seems quite happy as a wild bird. I know there is a wild colony south of me in Austin, but I learned those are green. Is this a wild bird or an escaped pet?

This is likely an escaped pet - you could post a picture with your area on 911 Parrot Alert page on Facebook. It is a widely used tool for those who have lost their avian companions. I’m glad that he seems to have adapted and has been feeding, someone may be thrilled to find out that their pet is out there.

A lone budgie is likely an escaped pet. PLease try tofind the owner. I don't know what winters are like were you are, likely too cold for this little guy.

Thanks for your replies. My wife volunteers at the local animal shelter, so she is working those connections to find the owner. We also have alerted all the neighborhood. I guess we need to get parakeet food to put in his favorite feeder? He seems to enjoy the songbird mix we put out. We have 3 feeders, but he prefers the one in the picture.
