Is an all gray lovebird rare?Theres this adorable gray-ish, white-ish lovebird at a petstore near me and i've tried looking up what kind of subspecies it is and I can't find anything.I know the gray headed lovebird is rare but this is all gray with a little white. No other colors.

are you sure it is a lovebird and not a Quaker ? sounds like when you say grey and green is a Quaker . Lovebirds are usually peach colored and green no grey and there is the fisher lovebird which is black and blue , and then you have the lutino lovebird which is totally different as well .

They do look very similar except the eye rings. The love bird has next to no white around the eye and the other one has more. hhmm interesting!

Shrek & Fiona the Indian Ringnecks, Chiku the Fischer's Lovebird Marley the Cockatiel, Dara and Bullrush the Eastern Rosellas.
Its definately a lovebird. Probably a colour mutation of the masked or the black-cheeked. Fischer's are green with orange heads. Its the blue masked that are black and blue. Lovebirds have dozens of colour mutations. The rare lovebird with the gray head is the madagascar lovebird. The males have gray heads and I'm pretty sure they dont have the white eye ring. The white eye ring varieties are the fischers, black-cheeked, masked, and nyasa.

I ended up getting both of them because I felt so bad for the other. The petstore worker put on huge cloves and was chasing the poor birds around the cage for like 3 minutes!I couldn't leave the other one there with them doing that.

Their both VERY skiddish and scared and all my other lovebirds have never been skiddish and all so do I just work with them and keep letting them out each day and keep slowly trying to let them perch on my finger?

Untamed lovebirds is not easy to work with. Easier to work with them being separated!

Ok... do you know if it's a Peachface? If so it would be a DD Green. They appear black/grey sometimes almost fading into white. They are really just a green Lovebird with two dark factors. I have one myself. If you had a picture it would help, there is a possability it is a different mutation.

Also what "grey head" Lovebird are you saying is rare? There is no rare grey head Lovebird that I've ever heard of. Are you talking about white-face? It's not rare, it's just hard because breeders often mistake mutations for it and falsely advertise. The bird you're seeing is certainly not rare, you should try joining some of the Lovebird groups and the ALBS website if your interested in learning mutations. It's alot of fun :)

That's an actual sub-species, not a mutation. I know it can all be quite confusing. The bird in the picture is a hybrid and you would not want to use it for breeding. They are trying to sell a Peachface and a Hybrid... I personally wouldn't be buying from this pet store. Also, do they really have the bird in a glass cage without lots of perches? That is a red flag right there.

ALBS is African Love Bird Society. They hold the Love Bird shows, have a magazine, and more! It's wonderful. ALBS ONLINE

Well they had no idea what kind of lovebird it was. They just said it came in with the order of lovebirds.

And yeah.It was in a glass cage with one plastic pipe perch around it.Thats why I got both of them. They love all their perches in their new cage now.

Like I said I wouldn't suggest buying birds from that store. They are getting shipped hybrid birds, which are infertile. When you buy birds from a store like that, they are able to purchase more and more. If they are receiving hybrids you can guarantee they are also receiving related birds, inbred birds, and unhealthy stock. Any pet store should be able to tell you what type of bird they are selling and give you some background, it sounds like they are buying from a mill if they have no information about them.

You should not have the birds in the same room, those birds need to be quarantined for at least a month.
