A neighbor of mine bought a love bird a month ago and she endded up turning it into a bitter. She can't stand the bird now and wants me to take her. I went to spend time with her tonight and feel she just needs time to bond to a person and she would stop biteing as the two hours i spent with her she never bite me but jumped off my hand to get one of her kids. They have teased her way to much.
My question is she bites at her feet and acts like she is trying to pull her toe nails out. Is this normal? She is on a seed diet with no fresh fruit or veggys and does not get a sound sleep as they never cover the cage and are up late. Of course she would go to the vet if i adopt her but i am not sure if i want to bring her into my home yet.

Just watch your other birds! Lovebirds are known to be little terrorist. I would probably keep her wings clipped to keep her pestering other birds. They're wonderful birds if tame! My partner wanted a pair but I said no. They used to pester my other birds....

She is very tame to people that respects her and she is a terror lol. They have a dog and she bites his feet. Wings are trimmed. She wants to bite kids in the face so she will have to be watched close.

Aww, poor little thing just sounds like she needs someone to give her what she truly needs and that is love and attention.
I have a hahns macaw, a caique and a lovebird...
Ava (my lovebird) is a diva...I do keep her wings clipped because she loves to go after my caique...she seems to think she is ten feet tall and bullet proof...I can have all three out at the same time because they are all clipped.
Ava can be a terror when she is hormonal but what bird can't. She gets lots of attention by riding around on my shoulder or my husbands shoulder..she is a joy and loves to give kisses...if you have the time and patience then I say go for it but only if you have the time and patience...she will reward you. I promise. My ava is calm and sweet and fiesty and wild all rolled into one..I love it.

I have to say I'd probably be a biter, too, given the conditions she's being kept in! No proper sleep, children teasing her, poor diet - none of this is good for her mentally, and we all know how birds can react to stress badly and harm themselves physically too! I hope you, or someone you know, can get the poor bird out of there!

I was just going to update this thread. I got her today and she is now settling in my home. She is here as a foster bird. I have my work cut out for me lol. She has only been eatting sunflower seeds and getting about 6 hours of sleep at night. I would be grumpy too. She is enjoying the quiet and a perch as she only had a swing. New toys and some good sleep tonight i think she will wake up ready to start a food change over. Pics to come later

I take in about 4 birds a year to foster. I get them vetted, on a healthy diet, and work through any "people problems" they may have. Some time it is very hard to let them go. But i make sure the home they go to is a forever home. I also offer my support 24-7 if they have any issues. I get Christmas cards every year from most of my adoptive familys and emails with pics. She has already touched my heart the first day i checked on her. I just worry about falling in love with them because it is so hard to let them go.
