1.) Paris- 1.5 year old Peachfaced/Fischer hybrid lovebird

2.) Sparky- 2 month old Fischer lovebird
1.) Does your lovebird grind his beak before he goes to sleep? I've had two out of three do this, and I was wondering if it was the species I have (fischer) or if it was just a general lovebird behavior and my peachfaced was the exception.

Also, when your birds were babies, how much did they groom? My new one is constantly grooming himself, especially his feet, and I can't remember if my first one did it as much

I don't have lovebirds, but most parrots grind their beaks before they go to sleep.

And some birds do preen more than others. My conure preens a lot. She also files her own toenails and beak on her cement perch. And bathes nearly every day. She is more particular about her personal grooming than any other bird I've had.

My peach face grinds her beak before she goes to sleep as well, I think it's just them getting comfortable.

She mostly preens when she wakes up in the morning or from a nap and when she is getting ready for bed

Puck isn't a lovebird, although a lot of people seem to think he is for some reason, even though he's at least twice as big and has different colors. Silly non-parrot people.

Puck grinds his beak at night sometimes, but not all the time.

A pizza guy (I was lazy, I wanted an easy tea :p ) asked me if my jenday was an African grey the other day! Silly non parrot people!

Though, Alex liked him. He gave him a head scratch.

My new Fischer lovebird does both of those things, too. When he is ready to go to bed at night, I would hear him do that grinding sound. My previous peach faced did that too sometimes, usually during daytime naps.
And he is grooming himself for a long time several times a day. I thought it was more than is usual for lovebirds, but I guess he just like to be clean. Or maybe he is just getting comfortable in his new environment.

Seriously, people ALWAYS think he's a lovebird! I could see mistaking him for a conure, because he's the same size, but a lovebird? Really? XD

I recently had someone mistake my lovebird for a BUDGIE! I really don't see that at all. She looks nothing like a budgie!

Birds have nerves in their beak. They grind it because they are comfy and it feels good. Sounds to me like you have a happy and comfortable lovie :) Who also wants to look pretty. Have you tried to make your bird a little bath bowl? She may loooove to splash around!

My new little baby 7 week old lovebird was grinding his beak last night before he fell asleep! I think it means they are happy and content. :)

Both of my P.F. Lovebirds grind their beaks I think lol. It sounds like they are trying to snort like a pig or bird purring.
