my lovebirds had a clutch of 5, born from Nov.21-30. both parents are peach face, but 2 of my babies 'look' white face,.... I am quite surprised that there is no sign of peach colouring up to now. clearly both parents have very strong colouring with the red hoods. At this point I need some genetics advice if one of the parents would be carrying the gene for white face, if so, which one?

what could be another reason why the babies are lacking this colour up until now?

1st picture is the 2 babies that 'look' white faced...4-4.5 weeks old
2nd picture is of the parents - male is Green peach face, mom is peach face pied
3rd picture is of the oldest baby.

believe it or not I just noticed today, funny how you miss things when they are staring you right in the face ;)

my guess is that it would have to do with the pied gene in the mom but in any case the babies are absolutly beautiful. I would call it a very happy surprise:)

thank you.... a very nice surprise indeed!....both parents split series blue?, never would have guessed with the pied, but don't know the background of either parents for these two. I'm keeping the oldest one, 'she' is the softest, and has the most beautiful colouring, and has a sweet, sweet sweet, disposition.

Both par-blue mutations are recessive, so both parents would have to carry the gene in order for the chicks to get it.

Of course, they're true colors wont show until after they go through their first molt, so what one may look like now may change at a later date.

Looking at the color of the rump feathers compared to the parents may also help you in figuring out their mutations.
