my lovebirds had a clutch of 5, born from Nov.21-30. both parents are peach face, but 2 of my babies 'look' white face,.... I am quite surprised that there is no sign of peach colouring up to now. clearly both parents have very strong colouring with the red hoods. At this point I need some genetics advice if one of the parents would be carrying the gene for white face, if so, which one?

what could be another reason why the babies are lacking this colour up until now?

1st picture is the 2 babies that 'look' white faced...4-4.5 weeks old
2nd picture is of the parents - male is Green peach face, mom is peach face pied
3rd picture is of the oldest baby.
4th pic. is 2 of the peach face babies
5th pic. are the 4 babies, the older one was still in the cage

believe it or not I just noticed today, funny how you miss things when they are staring you right in the face ;)

Whitefaced is a mutation from the Blue series which is recessive. This means both parents have to carry the genetic trait. The baby which has a clear forehead may be a Blue Pied (can't see the back color of the bird). If both parents are green, then you cannot have a Whitefaced Blue. Both parents can be split to Blue (meaning they are both carrying the recessive genetic Blue trait) and that's why they had a Blue baby. Also it is a Pied which is another mutation. So what it seems you have from the pictures is a normal green, 2 Green Pied and a Blue Pied. By the way, until the babies go through their mount (changing their feather to adult color) you will not see the true intensity of colors.
Hope that helps,

The parents certainly are both blue split,since the mutation blue is recessive,it is necessary that the offspring receive the mutated genes by both the parents;
The Gene Pied, it's different,since this mutation is a dominant mutation, which means that it's sufficient that only one of the parent is mutated to trasmit the mutation to the offspring;
Said that, your proven pair can produce:
- simple green lovies
- blue lovies
-green lovies
-pied green and/or pied blue;

thus your pair is priceless....compliments..
