Hello
Ive had my lovebird for around two weeks now and I want to get to know him/her better, so can you answer these lovebird body language questions:
What is it showing when it shakes it tail quickly?
When its head hair stands on end?
Only keeps one eye open (ive noticed this as quite a habit from it, is ths normal or could he have a irritaion in his eye?)
Thanks

Not sure about lovebird, but when my amazon kept closing one eye his eye was scratched/bumped and needed to go to the vet.

Peach faced lovebird Basil
Is he just closing one eye when he appears to be resting or positioned to sleep? My Basil sometimes sleeps with one eye open, the other one closed. If he's closing one eye when he's playing or eating, then I have no idea and sounds like you should take him to the avian vet.

A relaxed lovie will look soft and fluffy. If his feathers are tight to his body, he's alert and ready for something (a threat to him or his territory). Basil does the tail feather shake, usually as part of preening and rearranging his feathers or stretching when he wakes up.

Good luck with your new baby.

Fanning the tail feathers means to back off. This may be accompanied with feathers on the head standing standing puffed up. A sign of "do not come closer, I will bite!"

Shaking said feathers is more rearranging of the feathers, especially when accompanied with fluffed body feathers and shaking of the upper body.

The one though, even during normal activity, sounds like possibly a sick bird.

sometimes when a bird is sitting with you and is very comfortable, he will fluff up and may want a head scratch. fluffing up could also mean he's angry, but it depends on the situation. good luck with your lovie!
