lovebird egg laying ?

ok so my female lovebird layed 3 eggs like a month or 2 ago only one egg hatched but the baby didnt make do to it being the mom and dads first time i was wanting to know about how long will it take her to lay more eggs im wanting to know so i can make sure she has and is getting everything she needs thanks plz reply

safely, they can have 2 clutches a year, but i would make sure you learn to handfeed first just in case they dont care for the babies properly again (you will have to raise it)

they can lay eggs almost right after, but ideally, i would let her rest for a few months, let her get in really good shape, and you can spend the time doing a lot of research on handfeeding babies, how to deal with nest emergencies, etc. this way she can prepare health wise and you can prepare too


ideally a laying hen should have a very healthy diet, full spectrum lighting (to help with calcium and vitamin D3 absorbtion), and be illness free. she should be perfect weight (not overweight and not underweight!)

the male needs to be in good shape as well because he will be the one feeding the female and helping to raise the babies.

a good diet consists of seeds, pellets, and veggies, and as much variety as you can give them. soft foods are great for feeding the babies.

if they aren't eating as much variety of veggies as you would like, take the time to try to get them on a good diet. proper nutrition is especially important for the babies and the parents will be feeding them.

you should have cuttlebone available for the hen at all times during laying, and a diet with calcium rich veggies is a must when she is laying eggs

she shouldnt be allowed to lay more eegs until at least two months have passe since the baby died as laying eggs and taking care of babies is very stressful on the mothers body. also she should be taking care of her babies even on her first clutch how old is she? they shouldnt be bred until they are a year old at least. Also make sure during breeding time she has extra calcium you can boil eggs and give her those crushed up shell and all and cuttle bones and also special food with extra calcium. Sometimes the birds will reject the babies though and in that case you would need to handfeed the babies, so I say to everyone breeding dont go into it lightly research, research, research and make sure you know how to handfeed the babies and what temperature the food needs to be and how much they need and how often to feed them its a huge chore but well worth it if you are prepared! good luck!

I would wait, maybe separate the two. If they are young, you may encounter that again.
wait 6 months and let them mature a bit.
Hand feeding is relatively easy, but can bring up a whole new onset of problems if you don't do it correctly.
