Alright so I have decided to re-home my current lovebird PLEASE don't rag me about the decision it was a hard one but needs to happen. Now i have decided to get a new parrot once Misty moves to a new home. I am trying to decide between a lovebird(i love their colors BUT they are SO feisty) and a GCC. Like i said i love the look of Lovebirds but their personality is so tough i really want a bird that properly trained is snuggly(my biggest quality i want about a bird) and i like the medium sized parrots but a sun conure is too loud and The GCCs are not that pretty in my opinion at least not when compared to lovebirds (I love the pied ones) so… i need help:green1:

What does pretty have to do with a bird?

I suppose you should look at the black topped or Pineapple or Cinnamon GCC mutations.

But I don't see what beauty has to do with the kind of bird you want?

I CAN choose

to not give you any advice because you do not appear to take parrothood seriously if you are willing to give up your current bird to get another.

Sorry Misty15, but I'm with Gary here. If there are good reasons for rehoming your current bird, what would be different with a new bird?

Note - I am not condemning you for choosing to rehome your bird because in some cases, that IS the best course of action for the sake of the bird. Of course, you would have tried everything possible to make it work because you wouldn't want to put the bird through the trauma of adjusting to a new home for some arbitrary reason, right? But to immediately replace the rehomed bird? Whatever for?

And requirements like "pretty" and "snuggly"? Huh? You should come meet MY bird. He is not "pretty" because he's got 2 poorly healed breaks in his wing and the multitude of nips on my hands are testiment to how "snuggly" he is. However, in my eyes he is the sweetest, dearest, cleverest, most beautiful bird I've ever seen and hell will freeze over before I give him up.

I suggest you think carefully before aquiring a new bird.

Yes, please give us more info on why your lovebird needs a new home? People won't feel right recommending anything. What is it about your lovebird that makes it not a good fit? And why do you think a new bird may be better?

I agree, that based solely on your first comment it seems you don't take parronthood seriously. Please don't be offended by that, I'm just letting you know how the members will see that as so you can explain in a way we can understand.

Birds are not really known to be cuddly... If you want something "pretty" as a pet maybe you just have to live with an aviary type situation where your bird is there to look at rather than play with? Conures can be nippy, loud and needy as with any other bird and it's more about understanding bird behavior and proper training and bonding than getting lucky with a cuddly easy bird

Why do you have to give up your Love Bird to get another one? It would be good for them both to have a buddy nearby for the times when you're not at home.

hey, why is your lovie going? :( i get you. sometimes you just dont wanna do it, but you have no options...never mind. what kind of parrot do you want? i see hookbills are cuddly. cockatoos, lovebirds, senegals are also friendly. but you cant say, it depends on every indiviual bird. im not sure if these are the kind of birds ur looking for. hookbills and others might even be difficult to find. hmm.... i think you gotta find your choices first!!

Grr I am sorry I even asked!!!!! Thank you very much for your nasty replies!! I tried to Nicely ask you all to understand but really now!!!! You are all lovely parrot owners I am sure but you are very harsh. I shall be leaving this forum now.
And FYI sometimes we do have to give up our birds AND it might be a personal reason that we do not want to shout to the world!

I am sorry if I sound mean but you NEED to tone it down sometimes

Good bye!

I understand your frustrations - and yes, people need to tone it down. But could you please explain why you're rehoming your lovie?

We arn't here to judge - but we need to understand WHY you're rehoming, so you don't run into the same issues with a bird again.

For example: Your bird has incredible aggression that you cannot get past; means we won't suggest birds that are particularly bitey/aggressive.

We need a ton more information before we can help you.

Wanting to rehome, and then wanting to possibly get another (lovebird)...THAT's the remark, I believe that many of us just don't get. :)

Oh, I understand - but as we don't know why we need to relax with the harsh attitudes. She has said in her post that lovies are fiesty and she's struggling with their personalities. But if she explains further then we might be able to help her with her lovie, or find a suitable bird for her.

People buy birds that arn't a good match all the time, generally through lack of research. (I bought a cockatoo, but it was too loud, how was I to know? etc)

So lets find out the problem, try and find a fix - and then try and find a suitable match if no fix can be found.

How can we "understand" when you have given no clue as to why you are re-homing?
How can we suggest a species when we don't know what your lovebird did to have to be re-homed?

After looking at MISTY15's past threads, it seems like she bought an untamed Lovebird. She may have tried to work with him and had poor results. Hopefully she re-homes him in an aviary or someone willing to work with him.
There's no need to get upset and she should have just mention that.

My gutt reactions are often overly emotional, can be harsh and I tend to be a little too quick to jduge, I'll admit. Based on the info supplied, I struggled to understand the reasoning behind Misty's decisions. Perhaps she can give us more info?

I disagree that we don't need to know the reason for rehoming her bird - how can we make recommendations without knowing the details? Granted, there are many many people on here with a lot more experience that I have but I've had my Percy for four months and I have made definate progress so I do feel I have some insights to share - especially considering how difficult my relationship with Percy was in the beginning.

I wouldn't give him up or give up on him after just a few months. From Misty's earlier posts, it seems that she's not had her lovie a long time. Did she give him enough time?

Sorry if I was harsh, I am just thinking of the poor birdie :(
