Help pair of lovebirds young birds one is plucking the other

Hello dear readers,
I recently got a young pair of love birds for Christmas. However one constantly plucks the other. It now has a very prominent bald patch. What should I do? Please help. I m distraught. Should I separate them? Thank you.

You sure it was the other one that did the plucking??? If that's the case please do separate them, they don't need to be together to be happy! Young birds tend to be nasty about picking on the other ones. I've had babies that did that, older babies picking at the younger babies feather by feather.

Thank you mikey. I was afraid of separating them because they re you as you can see from my picture of them. How old do you think they are? Also they ll be ok I. Separate cages where they can see each other? Thank you so much. My first pair of lovebirds so I m learning as I go along.

I'm not sure how old they are as I haven't raise that mutation before. I know sometimes they can look a little different from their adolescent plumage to adulthood. Just separate them and they will be just fine.

I agree seperate them they will be fine you can let them out of the cage to play togetwhr supervised but seperating is best if one is plucking the other. They look fairly young I would say under 2 years but I see one has a band you can trace those numbers to the breeder or the hatch year may be on it google how to tell what it means birdtricks has a blog post on it that's helpful.

Thank you very much. I m playing with them both at the moment. They seem to be ok for now. It's my first pair of lovebirds so I m easily worried. I have four budgies, a cockatiel, an orange winged amazon, a yellow crowned amazon and two red eardd sliders. Animals are my passion it's what led me to pursue a degree in zoology, couldn't be a vet because I can't see animals in pain it shatters my heart so I did the next closes thing zoology lol. Lupe started plucking Tito after their unfertile eggs didn't hatch. I separated them and they were fine. After Tito died and both Lupita and Rico came back positive for PBFD, I tried them together. Lupe then plucked at Rico. She's a plucker, I guess. Apart from those few days, Rico & Lupe have always lived next door to one another. They talk and look at each other but seem to be just fine. Lupe prefers her own cage apparently!
