I had set out today, to go look at a female Peachface Lutino.....mainly for Tie-Dye.

the poor guy is so lonely without a mate, he is quite dejected.

As I walked in the door the man uncovered her cage. they have it covered because it is right by the front door.

Her cage was on top of a large flight cage, it was over crowded with budgies.

I'm standing there thinking to my self...."what have I got myself into???"

he lifted her cage down, she was in one of those three tier cages, about 2ft. long....I look down, and there are gobs and gobs of poop that have fallen thru the bars at the bottom of the cage.

I look at her and she's pretty, considering her conditions.

she didn't look bad at all....until I notice her beak. her bottom beak curves upwards and off to the side which meets up with her upper beak....sort of like Num Num's beak.

I asked about her beak and both were surprised, I honestly don't think they noticed...either that or they just didn't know.....idk.....

I look in her dish and there is some sort of small type seed in there.
I asked what they fed her.

the lady(who was very nice, but totally naive on how to properly take care of a bird) handed my a no-name bag of wild bird seed....you can't get more bottom of the barrel than that! omg.....

Her husband then shows me what else she's being fed, he seemed quite proud at the fact she had sun flower seeds in the other dish....my heart sunk at that point.

I'm standing there, with a smile on my face, when I really should have just turned and walked out, but I couldn't.....I just couldn't leave her there, in that poop filled cage, with no nutrition, no nothing.

I made a decision to bring her home, and get her better nutritionally.
she's underweight, her chest is not round, you can see on either side where it caves in a bit.... her feathers aren't too bad, but need improvement.
her feet are good, and her energy seems good.the lady seems to think she's about 3-4 years of age, which is about the same age as Tie-Dye.

She is currently receiving some much needed sunshine in our living room, which is brightly lit by 6 bay windows.

so here are some pics of her.....her colours remind me of a sunrise, so that is what I named her....Sunrise.

her beak issue:rolleyes:....poor thing

 Beth, I can TOTALLY see why this stunning girl ended up with you. WOW, what beautiful colors!!!

I have a strong feeling that Sunrise won't be recognizable in a few months with your TLC. ;)

Many congrats on her. She's quite something. :D

She is such a beautiful girl!! I have never had a lovebird and its pretty clear to me that no birds beak should look like that!!

I can see why you could not leave her, her colors are gorgeous... So after getting her healthy and happy, will you introduce her to Tie-Dye?

Big hugs to you for bringing her home regardless of what problem she may have.

I got a better look at her bottom beak....it swoops from right to left, so it's curved:(

but she doesn't seem to care or notice....and I don't care either, all though she does need a good beak trim, but that will come later when we get some $$$. the first time visit the vets will charge for a check up and beak trim.

Once she's been here for about a month I'll introduce her to Tie-Dye.

I've given her small chunks of almonds, flax seed, Herb Salad, Iodine and calcium in her water....
tomorrow she'll get the veggies, leafy greens etc....hopefully she may attempt to try it, but I wouldn't count on it, she has probably never ever seen what a piece of corn looks like, or kale, but she will now!!.....I'll drown her in veggies until she eats it, haha.

what can you do about the beak? Anything? I've never seen anything like that before. Thank you for rescuing her. :)

Actually Jen, that's not true. Crossbill's beaks should look like that. :)

Seriously though, lutinos are my favorite!

nutrition will slow the beak growth down to a degree.

I won't know more until I see a vet about it.

she's happily chirping trying to communicate with my birds in the other rooms :)

Do you plan on breeding them? Out off curiosity do you think the deformed break is something that could be passed on to chick's I'd bred?

Beth, you have the biggest, most tender heart, my friend:) I am so glad you brought her home with you and I think Sunrise is the perfect name for her - the beginning of a new day and a new life for her:)

I thought the same thing after I came up with her name....a new beginning.
I named her sunrise because she has the colours of a sunrise, intense and gorgeous and the same time.:D

No worries Wendy:D.....
beak deformities are usually caused by inbreeding, which I hope is not the case with her, and usually take on a different form than what she has.

...I am hoping and praying they do hook up, when the time is right....she has been lonely for over a year, so has Tie-Dye

here is a picture of Tie-Dye, this is why I picked Sunrise....

well..... luckily I had a $50 mastercard that he gave me for my birthday.

I hadn't spent it, so I gave that back to him, which lessened the blow a little:54:

Shes beautiful :) The Eclectus I got at xmas time had a beak just like this. I thought it might be some sort of diet deficiency.I took him to my vet to get him looked at and his beak done. I don't think the vets around here know as much as they should [he couldn't really give me an answer [except their was no infection] . He groomed his beak down well [but its growing back the same way].I found out that the under part of the upper beak has some sort of notch in it [and has to be filed down too] Im going to try this soon. Please let me know if you ever figure this out.

Beth, I know Sunrise thinks she is in heaven. And she is just as pretty as a sunrise. Both birds are gorgeous.
