Zura-BlueMasked Lovebird
Hi everyone.

So this week i got a new little Lovebird. its a blue mask that i named 'Zura'.He is roughly 3-4 months according to the lady i got him from. He is parent raised and hasn't been held much by humans. So obviously he is very timed around people. I know it'll be some time before he has any sort of trust for me and im ok with that. But i had a few concerns that i needed help with?

My biggest concerns right now is how often he naps.

yesterday, other than in the morning (he was pretty noisy the first few hours awake) he was pretty quiet most of the day,and he seems to fluff up and nap a lot? Is this typical? I mean he is young..? Or maybe he is just adjusting?

I just figured he would be a lot more noisy during the day? today he was more on the noisy side until around 2,then i dozed off in the room with him,for like 2 hours ( i didnt sleep much last night worrying about him lol) and he was quiet the whole time.

he's been good about eating and drink and i do believe his poop looks normal,I plan to take him to a vet in a few days anyway, its just a matter of finding and Avian vet near my home.

I have 7 people living in my house and two small dogs,so i stuck his cage in a more high traffic area to get use to us being around him,But im concerned if this isnt to much for him to take too soon?

Ive been trying to get a bird, a lovebird, for over a year now and i just wanna be a good owner,so maybe im over thinking things but i could really use the advice and any tips anyone has on taming lovebirds?

Birdie, my Lutino lovebird.
Congratulations on your new lovebird. :)

Okay, so, the fact that he's quiet is pretty normal. It's more of the fluffing up that worries me. It could be that he's just adjusting, but it could also signify a bit of a problem.

To be on the safe side (I did this anyway, even though my bird seemed fine), I would take it to a vet--hopefully, an avian vet.

It took a few days for my lovebird to start getting noisy. It was very quiet at the beginning, and it hardly even chirped. Then, it realized my house was its new home, and it got comfortable.

Oh, good, you're talking about taking him to a vet. That's a good idea.

It could be too much to have him so close to everything else. Birds need time to adjust. If it hasn't been exposed to many humans, it would be smart to take it slowly. Have people around if necessary, but make sure they don't approach the cage. Even if they're trying to be friendly, they could scare the bird. It would also be smart to keep the dogs away.

Handtaming... you should probably get it checked out and adjusted to its surroundings before you start taming it. When you do, though, we'll all be happy to help. :)

Here's the deal, he's new! He haven't been around long enough to get adjusted to your household yet. By placing him in a high traffic area is another thing, he's probably not getting enough rest. That's probably why he naps when you do see him. Perhaps try a calmer area to keep him at for the time being!
