I was (Today) given 4 lovebirds, all hatchmates. They are 3 weeks old. They came from a friend who is not going to be breeding anymore and i am left with the job of handfeeding/re-homing them.

He has never had a baby with a crooked beak, this is the first.

I have a lot of experience with parrots, and breeding/hand rearing them, however i have never come across a Lovebird with this problem. (Though i knew it existed obviously)

Most of my experience with crooked beaks (Scissor beak) has been with large birds. Macaws especially.

I was only planning on getting them weaned and then re-homed. And i have never had to correct a beak issue on such a small bird. Large parrots? No problem, but a bird this small? I'm scared to do anything to him at all! And as much as i'd love to take him to the vet, I just cannot afford it for an issue that is not life threatening (In it's current condition) for a bird that i planned on re-homing after i weaned it.

I'd like to point out that if it did become life threatening i would take him to the vet Immediately

My question: Is this something that needs to be corrected/worked on as soon as possible, or is it something that i could instruct the new owner with doing (Letting him know full well that this bird would be special and need extra attention and vet care, also letting the new owner that this is something that may or may not be permanent/correctable.

I have several parrots and need to be able to afford in case of emergency vet visits.
I feel terrible that my financial situation will not allow me to fix this in this circumstance.

Question #2: Because i have experience with correcting beaks on larger parrots (not extreme conditions, just your typical correctable crooked beak) is it pretty much the same deal with the smaller guys, just more delicate? (Just for insight, i would never attempt to do anything without a trained professionals advisement)

Any Insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I hope I don't sound the way i think i do. I'm the first one to scold people on the importance of knowing what owning parrots involves, and how much it costs

(This is also posted in the General Healthcare section because i wasnt sure where to place it, and i will gladly have it removed in either section if warranted)
