3 months after our beloved Elbee passed away, we got a new lovie. She's 2-3 years old, and doesn't really like people. She does, however have a huge crush on our oldest parakeet, Blue. She follows him everywhere! He's a patient sort, so it doesn't phase him. I was just curious though--they can't mate, can they? I really don't think it's possible, but I figured, with my luck, lol!

Welllll now, I've heard of some unique things happening in nature, remember that galah-'tiel from a few years ago, but then they were of the same family...just different species, though in Blue's case, I think the law of probabilities is on your side, so, probably no worries, but, Blue may be a sly fox, just biding his time...I've heard it said that you should always watch out for the old birds ! ! !

My lovie was also 2 years old when I got him. He seems to have warmed up to me a lot more now that he's been with me for a few months. It really helped to let him walk around the apartment, but that might not be the best option depending on your living arrangements. It's nice to see that you're back with a new lovie, I freaking LOVE my lovebird <3

No, they cannot mate! :) I did a lot of research on this since I have the same story - my lovie and a little budgie are in love! :) I posted a thread with pictures about this. It's really funny and adorable, but sometimes little one climbs on her and tries to "do the thing", but he is way too small, and it's hilarious to watch. :D
Cockatiels and Galahs can sometimes crossbreed because they are much closely related. Lovebird is from Africa, and budgies are from Australia, so there is no any relation at all. I saw some weird forum threads (not this forum) about lovie/budgie offsprings, but they looked like a total scam to me, and other people said the same.

Yeah, it's unlikely that they would ever be able to crossbreed - they're genetically very different. It'd be like trying to crossbreed a cat and a dog.
