I have a question about how to do that. Is it easier to pluck feathers or draw blood? I would rather pluck feathers but the problem is my lovie is not fully tame. It will sit on my hand when feeding treats but if I try and hold it, it bites and the poor things heart beats so fast. I fear that plucking feathers will traumatize her and all the trust she has in us will be lost. Is drawing blood painful? Someone told me you clip a toe nail and then clot it after you have enough blood.
DNA testing of animals was a natural off-shoot of laboratories doing other DNA testing and any lab that has diverged into animal testing has been in the business long enough to enjoy a reputation in their primary testing business, so, in answer to your question, yes Avian BioTech is safe & reliable.....
I have always had my birds tested using plucked feathers, where clipping toenails too short is painful to the bird.....you can always turn out the lights, firmly grab several feathers from the bird's back or chest & give a sharp yank.....the bird usually never feels the feather loss.....

I did the feather method about 9 years ago. I think I recall it was the abdomen/breast (front) feathers that they wanted specifically. At least in this case it was accurate, as the vet saw the sexual organs during a surgery.
