Help! Eye infection?

Hi Everyone,

I just got a pair of baby lovebirds in early feb, both are responding well to hands and are very tamed. However I just noticed this on one of the bird's eye on sun. The feathers around its right eye are ruffled up, left side thankfully is fine. Despite that, its behavior is perfectly normal and responsive.

I clean their cage every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and change the newspapers every 2-3 days.

It comes as a concern as there isn't any change around its eye.
Is it some infection or disease (see attached pictures)?

Anyone encountered these with their lovebirds before?

Thanks in advance!

There is no blood and it doesn't look like it is suppurating, so it might be just a scratch where the skin has been disturbed enough for it weep an amount of fluid...not all wounds bleed red blood, maybe it's just a small scratch by the bird or its cage mate...I'd keep a watch on it, but it will probably just go away, as long as it is not bothered with.....

If it bothers you, call your veterinarian and discuss it with them.....

Good luck.....

It doesn't look irritated to me, but it's hard to tell from that pic. Is he scratching it or rubbing it against something? Is there any discharge from the eye?
I ditto with Weco response.

From what I see I don't see an eye infection but feathers growing in around the eye. They're new feather growths.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you all for the valuable response. I'm not sure if it is a scratch or if she's rubbing against something, but today it looks much better compared to when I first noticed it on Sunday. Perhaps like MikeyTN suggested, it could be new feather growths. Strange though that its only on one side of the eye (first time bird owner hence the concern)

I suspect it could be the fabric bed i hung inside the cage on Saturday which I immediately removed on Sunday when I noticed the ruffled feathers around its right eye.

Don't blame you for being concerned about something like this cause it could of been something serious. :)
