The only parrot I own is my very first bird, a 7 month old male Peach Faced Lovebird called Rin ^_^
I'd love any advice on hand taming my Lovebird I can get!

I bought Rin from a local pet shop on the 11th of April 2015, from a couple who love parrots and birds in general, they're really nice people.

Rin is a male 7 month old Peach Faced Lovebird, and he's such a sweet little guy.

So far I've been sitting by his cage, talking/singing to him and he just sits on his perch watching me, seemingly curious/chilled out.

I've also been putting my hand in the cage for 10 minutes a couple times a day, and he just hangs off the side staring at my hand. I put some food in my hand to lure him into thinking hand = food = happiness, but he doesn't touch it, just sits and looks at it, almost curiously. He doesn't go crazy and frantically fly around his cage. The worst he does is climb around his cage to get away from my hand, but he doesn't seem to act aggressively or anything like that.

He spends like... 5+ hours a day with me, as he's in my bedroom where I spend near enough all of my time, and he usually sits on his perch chirping away, making this lovely noise that's like singing, and he does this cute thing where he stretches his wing and leg, on the same side, and kind of drags his foot along his wing.

He eats in front of me which he didn't do at first, and he happily chomps on his millet. He also climbs around his cage a lot, and hops on his perches, mostly whilst chirping.

He responds if I make sounds to him, and calling out his name, by looking at me, chirping (almost as if he's talking back to me), and tilting his head at me curiously, it's really cute.

Am I doing the right thing? Am I making things worse? Am I making any mistakes?

Rin is my very first bird, and I just want him to trust me. If someone can give me a summary of how to tame birds, that would be amazing.

Thank you very much! :rainbow1:

It may take a while, but he'll get there. You're doing your part and, soon enough, he'll do his. Birds take time to learn to trust, so just be content with the baby steps, and it will happen. Keep doing what you're doing, and he'll start making moves toward you. Eventually, he'll hop onto your hand & off again, just "testing the waters". With every success, he'll grow bolder.

You're gonna love that little guy!!
