Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum. I've had birds In the past...mostly fosters or rescued potentially abused birds. Well yesterday I got a masked lovebird. She is about 2. Her owner was moving and didn't want to take her with him. I was a little nervous taking a bird who had belonged only to a man. Well I walked into the house and she took one look at me... flew to me and started preeN me. She's great!

However...

She is fully flighted and I cannot pick her up. She won't let me touch her. She won't step up. But she is glued to me. She will eat a bit of whatever I'm eating. She will fly to me if I tap my shoulder. I wanted to give her time to adjust but whenever I open the door for any reason she flys onto my shoulder.

My question is this. Should I clip her wings till we get hand tame? Or work on it whike she is flighted? I don't want to ruin her coming to me but I have to be able to handle her!

Thank you in advance!

Congrats on your new bird. If you're going to clip her wings, I wouldn't do it yourself. I suggest having someone else do it (do you have a parrot-only store?), then YOU "rescue" her from the person who did the clipping. My female lovebird tends to hold a grudge toward the clipper, and I really enjoy being her heroine for the day. :)

She sounds like she has a delightful personality. Lucky you.
