Lovebird sleeping way too much - lethargic

My lovebird, Lucky, usually has regular sleeping patterns.

Today, she slept practically all day. When she slept, she was in a very deep sleep. And when she was awake, she was lethargic. Also, she seems to have lost her appetite.

She is an obsessive nester, and may be trying to lay an egg. But she has never acted like this before.

Anybody have any ideas?

I took her to the vet, but he could not really tell me what was wrong with her.

He gave me some anti-biotics, but I have not given them to Lucky, yet.

Lucky seemed to get better, but now seems to be overly sleepy again. Not as bad as before.

I'd give them to her post haste. She will likely tolerate them well and I think you'll see a very quick improvement if it is a latent, lingering, low-level infection making her just feel offish. I've had to give my lovebird antibiotics for an injury before and he did just fine. I just gave him his favorite treat right after he took his meds. By the end of his treatment, he willingly took it because he knew his treat was coming. Good luck. I'm hoping your Lucky will be better soon. Kudos to you for taking her to the vet.

Lucky passed away on October 13th. She died in my hand. It broke my heart.

Her vet did an autopsy. She had cancer. There was nothing that anybody could have done.

I adopted another lovebird yesterday.

As long as you gave Lucky a good life, you did good. May your next bird thrive under the same care.
